A New Day for Alabama Baseball?

This happened yesterday when I was flying out of the country. I knew this had to happen.

Alabama head baseball coach Greg Goff has been dismissed after just one season, AL.com has confirmed.

With a hardline approach, Goff tried to change the team's culture and institute a small-ball style of play that didn't jibe with what Alabama had previously done under Gaspard. It appeared the players were starting to come around to Goff earlier this month, when Alabama shocked Auburn and took three games from its biggest rival on The Plains.

“As we move forward and look ahead, we’re looking for the best possible baseball coach that we can get with college experience. That could be a head coach, that could be an assistant coach, but we want somebody that’s been in college baseball and understands the dynamics of that. There have been several assistant coaches that I just want to give you examples of who have gone on to be head coaches at high-level program for their first job. Andy (Cannizaro) over at Mississippi State, Kevin O’Sullivan, who went from Clemson to Florida to be the head coach his first time, Brian O’Connor from Notre Dame to Virginia, Dan O’Connell from Ole Miss to Louisville. Don’t read too much into that, I’m just trying to give you some examples.
“We’re absolutely looking at head coaches, but we’ll also consider assistant coaches. We want to find the best possible college baseball coach that we can for The University of Alabama.”

Here's an article from 2016 about possible Tide baseball manager candidates. It is still applicable, I guess.

Pierce is entering his second season at Tulane and has guided the Green Wave to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances and at a school that had missed out on invites going back to 2008. He also coached Sam Houston State to three NCAA Regional appearances in three seasons at the school. Not a bad track record.

Just heard Aaron Suttles, sports guy for the Tuscaloosa News, on Jox Radio in Bham. He was asked that if you asked 20 players on the team if they liked and respected Coach Goff, how many would say they like him? His answer was maybe 1 (out of 20). Settles also stated that after every loss he told reporters that these were not his players. In other words, it wasn't his fault and he wasn't taking ownership of this team. I have never heard of such an excuse given to reporters. Of course, the players heard this stuff, too.

I don't understand how the NCAA can allow a disparity in schollys due to lottery states having more available. This puts Bama and Auburn at a distinct disadvantage.

There's a sign outside of the door of the NCAA offices. It states; "Hey Alabama, get with the times and do a lottery!!!!"

By the way 2, I figured out what Alabama can do with the big fancy baseball field that didn't help the team much. Move the fences in to 200', take the pitchers mound off the field and give it to the softball team and then move the baseball team to the softball field.
