The way to stop this nonsense is to allow only 2 laterals per play. Then, it's a penalty if 3.

I actually think the refs on the field did the correct thing by not ruling his knee was down and letting the play continue.  If they call him down when he is not, then the play stops immediately and they rob Miami.  When in doubt, let the play continue and sort it out afterwards.  If they let the play continue, then no harm is done as long as the replay official gets it right.  Unfortunately in this case though, the replay official did not get it right.

I give the guys on the field a B- and the replay official a 0.

One more thought, why in the world can't the replay official call a block in the back on a play like this when it is so obvious and the play is already being reviewed?  That rule needs to change.

1. Yes, Jamos and 2, the blocking was not reviewable.  I recall the official hinting that the review was why they picked up the flag.

2. Very difficult to make all calls on the field; THUS, reviews...

3. I put this on the review crew.

4. SUSPENDING THE OFFICIALS??  Why hasn't the ACC reversed the decision and awarded the win to DUKE??

Because the rule states that they can't do that.

It seems to me though, that since replay is such a large part of the game now, that rule needs to be changed. I mean if they are going to such extremes to "get it right", they need to do everything to "get it right".

Nonsense.  This wasn't a case of a screwed-up play during the game that changed the game.  This play last 47 seconds when there was 6 seconds on the clock.  IT WAS THE FINAL PLAY, and a penalty would end the game there.  There was a penalty, which was illegally reviewed and dismissed.  Plus there were players off the bench on the field (without helmets) and much more.  The game should have ended with a penalty; DONE!

I had wondered about whether the player's knee was down in the gif posted earlier but I had not seen it slowed down like that so, since the official was standing right in front of that part of the play, I dismissed it as not being "down."  However, I did question the "review" of the block in the back penalty.  It was my impression that the only penalty that was reviewable was targeting.  Is this not the case?

Don't shoot the messenger. Besides, I'm on your side. But once the game has been determined to have completed, no matter the controversy, the game is over as stands.

Laughing

I watched Mike and Mike this morning.  They were discussing it too.
Conclusion: If they can review the plays a minute after the game ends, then they can review it the next hour, next day, etc.
The ACC concluded that the officials screwed up, and suspended the on-field ones, plus the replay guys and the "communicator".  The ACC admitted that fouls were missed and mistakes made.

SO, CHANGE THE SCORE!!

Why can't Duke today ask for a review? No other play has been run so I think it is possible. Since the ACC has already stated the runner's knee was down, play was dead, and Duke wins.

There was an automatic review of the play at game's end.  All TDs in last 2 minutes are reviewed.

Do you mean a review now?  The ACC did a review and agreed with Duke.  But for some STUPID idea, nobody has the cajones to grant Duke the win!

I don't think the NCAA allows that except for cases of forfeiture...

Nonsense.  I'll bet 2's wet shoes that the NCAA yields to conference decisions.
