Sporting News has ranked the 124 FBS head coaches by conference. Now it’s time to see how they rate overall.
 
First, some notes about our list:
 
— The Big 12 coaches have by far the best average ranking: 27.2, which crushes the second-best SEC’s average ranking of 43.3. Next in line: the Pac-12 (43., ACC (45.6) and Big Ten (46..
 
— Of course, the Big 12 has only 10 teams. Compared with the top 10 rankings by conference, it falls slightly below the SEC’s average of 26.6. The Pac-12 still ranks third at 34.5, followed by the Big Ten (35.9) and the ACC (37.0).
 
— The SEC is the only league other than the Big 12 whose lowest-ranked coach isn’t in the 100s. Tennessee’s Derek Dooley, the No. 14 SEC coach on our list, ranks 99th overall.

So maybe Spurrier doesn’t work upward of 20 hours a day like, oh, that fella in Tuscaloosa, Ala., does. So what? The visored one has his own way of doing things

What's the matter? Don't you boys take your football seriously over there in Columbia?

Again, you see these guys rooting for offense over defense. No matter how many times we explain it (or prove it), these dip wads don't understand what wins championships.


Tubby ranked 10th in the Big 12-- LOL-- that would put him about 120 in the nation in defense.

Well I say they got it right. CNS is No. 1. That sure is some fine work there. RTR!

CNS is #1. Anyone would get that right. But putting Gary Patterson and Chris Peterson in the top 10 is to ignore the fact that they haven't coached against the big boys yet-- at least on a week to week (season long) basis. Spurrier did great at UF, but has only been slightly above average since. Urban Meyers is mentally unstable. Stoops is great, as long as you end his season each year around November. Van Gundy and Kelly (and the rest of the Big 12) will eventually find out they need a defense to win championships. All in all, this is just a Big 12 homers way to try and best the SEC at something-- anything, and an attempt to make playing offense (only) seem like a legitimate coaching philosophy. JMHO
