LSU is ranked No. 1. USC is ranked No. 3, followed by Oklahoma and Oregon.

The top three teams are very close. Alabama actually received the most first-place votes (20). USC received 19 and LSU received 18. LSU's total poll points (1,403) are only four more than Alabama (1,399), which is barely ahead of USC (1,388).

Five Southeastern Conference teams are ranked in the top 10 and seven are in the top 25. Besides LSU and Alabama, Georgia is ranked No. 6, South Carolina is ranked No. 9. Arkansas is ranked No. 10. Florida is ranked No. 23. Auburn is ranked No. 25.

How can Auburn even be ranked?  Arkansas is ranked way to high given the situation over there.  USC is too high in my opinion considering the lack of depth and a completely new D-line across the board.

The coaches are showing a lot of respect for the SEC. Once we get to conference play we beat each other up pretty good so I don't see anyway the barn can stay in the top 25. Arky and UGA in the top 10 is way too high. I really don't know what to expect out of USCe this year. LSU and Bama 1-2 looks about right.

I liked being ranked 4th. Being Alabama, I don't guess it really matters. Being NC's the last 2 of 3 years puts a target on our back regardless of where we are ranked, but we've always seemed to have better results climbing our way up. It's harder to be ranked #1 and then staying there.

Georgia? Really? This is why the other conferences rightfully bitch that the toughness of the SEC is an illusion. Rightfully so.

I understand you thinking UGA is overrated. But you think the SEC is not tough?

I do think it's tough, but the lesser AQ conferences have a legitimate gripe if a team like USCe or FL gets to trumpet beating GA as a top-ten win, and the computer and coaches polls credit them for a quality win.

I have no idea what the coaches are smoking. SIAP someone pointedly said that UGAs number of scholarship players is so low it looks like they are under PSU-like NCAA sanctions. There is no way that a team so depleted can rank 6 in the country. And the point of the lesser AQ conferences is that such a boost would never happen for schools like UVa or Rutgers.

For what it is worth, I think UGa may do better than Arkansas this year.  Their defense is much improved under the new coordinator, and they have a pretty good QB coming back.  They won 10 games last year.  They might be able to do that again this year.  I don't see any for sure losses on their schedule.  Every game seems winnable.

I agree with the Georgia resolution SC. I do however look outside the SEC and I find ND @ 24, not sure how they got that high. Boise ST. @ 22 is another question. Why so high? They lost their hosses who was there 4 years. Now they are just another Midwest Conference team or wherever. They don't have a sick Georgia team this year on their schedule. Clemson at 14 now that is a little to much help. They are going to without their drug man Sammy Slicky Watkins. I know these coaches ain't looked at all these teams and gave their personal conviction on this ranking. lol, RTR!

The SEC is still Bama/LSU and then everyone else. I think these two teams are still head and shoulders above everyone else in the SEC, and probably the nation.

Last year Georgia played LSU close for a half, lost to Boise State and USCe early on, beat Georgia Tech pretty soundly, and lost to Michigan State in overtime.  These are not the results of a top 10 team, maybe top 15, but Georgia was in its first year with its defense.  (And Michigan State had learned its lesson the previous year against Bama).

While Georgia returns its QB and defensive scheme, I still wouldn't put Georgia quite in the top 10, because of their lack of depth, and owing to their coaching.  While all their games are winnable, I just can't see Georgia winning all their games.  The early road game to Missouri is a trap game, if Georgia doesn't take it seriously.  Missouri will be well prepared for that game, welcome to the SEC.  Georgia has to travel to USCe this year -- my money is on Spurrier and the Gamecocks.  And I think Muschamp and the Gators will be better this year, not quite the deer-in-the-headlights, though I'd have to see the product on the field to have an opinion on the outcome of that game.  Anyway, Georgia loses at least one of those three games, USCe, and maybe one of the other two.  Ge

But still, I think you are comparing apples and oranges when you try to compare SEC schools with other conferences, and the results on the field indicate that the SEC deserves its high ratings.  Some people look at offensive statistics and claim the SEC has no offense, but that's not the case, the SEC just puts great athletes on defense too.  And, if someone thinks Georgia is overrated, who would you put ahead of them, outside of other SEC schools like Arkansas or USCe?

Bama may be ranked two behind LSU, however when it comes down to it I always take Bama because Bama has Saban and LSU has Miles.

Well said, Coach. I really think Lester has lost the golden horseshoe and is really going to have to coach to get LSU to the promise land. I don't see that happening. As long as they have Chavis as the DC, their "D" will always be great. But I'll bet dollars to donuts that they will have an average offense at best this year, again. CNS out-coached Miles big time in the NC game and I see him doing the same in Red Stick this fall.
