Around Campus / The Quad / Four years and positions later, walk-on Kelly Johnson relishing opportunity
|

Click here for linkAs a child in Charlotte, Vinnie Sunseri saw Kelly Johnson as the guy who could do it all.
Sunseri, Alabama’s sophomore safety, was only a fifth grader when he saw Johnson, a seventh grader, dunk a basketball.
“He was a freak athlete,” said Sunseri, whose older brother, Tino, played on Johnson’s middle school football team.
“I was like, 'Wow, I want to be like Kelly.’”
Years later, the tables had turned.
With Sunseri on scholarship and seeing action as a true freshman, Johnson, who had finally worked his way into some special teams duties as a walk-on junior, wanted to be just like Vinnie. He wanted to play.

So the ND vs Navy game from Dublin Ireland is on at 8 am CST Sat Morning. that is the dumbest thing ever. I frist thought the game itself was dumb, but the TV time tops it off. I mean I will have my coffee and root for Navy but still...... NO game should schedule kickoff before it is socially acceptable to drink beer!! Then I guess you will have to start early!

Pass Christian, MS I've been to Shaggys. Hope you didn't leave your boat there! I'm still waiting to hear from my friend on the MS coast. I expect he might not know the damage yet, as he would have weathered the storm inland.

I do think the game will be closer that most Bama fans think, but that is because Mich will have some things we haven't seen and this is a young( but really good) D. so until Bama settles in the game will be close, but I see them pulling away late with a pounding run game.
I'll take ANY win, but I expect TOTAL dominance. Sure, Michigan will move the ball some and score some points. But the game won't be in doubt. Please keep that in mind as during discussions of the In-Game Thread. Panic is not becoming. I agree, Chech, but even if we win all games and the NC, I suffer each time an opponent gets a first down, am devastated if they get beyond the 50-yard line, am horrified if they make a sack, crushed if we get a penalty, get pains if they score any points any way, and stop breathing if we fall behind anytime. So why do I endanger my health by following football? Because Bama is the greatest thing on the gridiron. Okay, let the suffering begin. AMEN!

This is the worse Category 1 storm I remember. But (as said above), it's the duration of the storm that made it so bad. Many in south Louisiana are saying it's worse than Katrina, but that's moot. Katrina's approach to the coast wasn't nearly as bad for Louisiana as for Mississippi; south Louisiana didn't have as much high water. So, the comparison isn't appropriate. Katrina was remembered because of failed levees in New Orleans, not tidal surge and rain south of there.
True. Katrina made landfall near the Louisiana Mississippi border, so those towns east, in Mississippi, got the brunt of the tidal surge and high winds. Bay St. Louis, MS was demolished in Katrina. Isaac is worse for Louisiana because it hit further west.

Good luck, Jody. I think you guys will be the best team in the east this year. Hopefully Georgia's favorable schedule wont keep you from Atlanta.
I do think tonight will be a tough game though. Vandy will be feisty this.year.
I agree. Vandy will be tough. It is always harder playing them early in the season, before their depth issues start to hit. Vandy has decent starters; it is depth that is usually their issue. I also think South Carolina is the team to beat in the east, despite experts picks to the contrary. Spurrier owns Georgia, and the game is in SC.

would you say this has to be the most powerful Cat 1 storm ever ?
I hear that there are some people saying the NHC missed it with their forecast on intensity and other factors .
as always , some folks always have to lay the blame elsewhere it seems (Land of the Free Home of the Blame)
so I wondered ... what do you all think ?
NHC = good job or NHC = missed it ?
It is moving extremely slowly, so even if the wind is not high velocity it is pushing in a lot of water.

Hoke has been watching film. And he's scared. Very scared.
Yep. He wants to run the ball clock as much as possible. Michigan has no chance if Robinson is the only one carrying the ball. With the RB, their chances go from none to slim.

I don't remember any of the big games for season openers until recently. Of the recent ones I would have to go with the Clemson game from 2008. I could not wait for that game because I was anxious to see things get turned around. John Mark Stallings died just before the season started and I remember thinking how unfortunate it was that he wouldn't live to see us back on top.
yep, that was my favorite recent first game. Cody pushing up the middle on the first play. The stunned look on Clemson players and fans.
