Oh, it's not that far, you know you've been dying for an RV anyway.  :D

I haven't been to a game on campus since the Prothro catch.  I'm thinking this year I should go to a game in Tuscaloosa and visit the old haunts again.  I've become inspired by the new forum.

MAN, you guys are vicious this morning.  How much of that coffee have you had?

BTW, I wasn't there for the Prothro snapped leg; it was the catch (against USM).

I caught that too late, but it was too funny to bother amending.

What is the deal with that highway?  I was up there a few months ago and they extended it a little bit more, but it still stops.

You must mean 78.  Who knows?  I think the bad news is that the work ends when the stimulus money runs out.

I'd go through Starkville and across 82 to Tuscaloosa anyhow.

If it was complete you could go down through fayette.  Yeah, the old highway is 78, I think they are renaming it something when it's an interstate, not sure.  They have been working on it my entire life.  For a long time it ended right after jasper.

I know.  I used to exit there when my Mom first moved to B'ham.  Before that I had to exit at Gu-win (weird name).  By 2006 I could make it almost to B'ham, but I think the workers all quit when Mom passed.

Yeah, there is a Gu-win and a Guin, not sure which was first.  Winfield is a nice little town and Fayette is pretty too.

I had an opportunity several years ago to pick up 1200 acres in Fayette county for 400 bucks an acre, could not afford it.  Still cant.   :(

Heavily wooded? You could log that off to pay for itself.

Yes but no mineral rights.  But I could have logged it I guess.  That was probably 2003.

Logging companies and mills have guys called "cruisers". They will come in and evaluate/estimate the board foot value of your acreage, for free. Of course, the board foot value paid by the mills flucuates with supply and demand (new housing starts).

Most of the property in this region of the country that you find for sale was already logged before sale.  Typically a family inherits land, has it logged for cash, then sells it as raw land.  It might have a few years of growth, but that's all.  At $400/acre, it had probably been logged already.

I would say this is probably true.  It also had a closed coal mine on it which the owner would not have rights to or any additional finds.

How long does it take a pecan tree (from sapling) to start bearing fruit? Too lazy to google search.

Along the Gulf coast, about 15 years for a good product.  They'll have some pecans after just a few years.  My cousin has groves in southern Alabama near Mobile.  In WV, who knows!!

Caution.  I have learned from cousin that so many people have planted pecans around the country that diseases spread easily and readily now.  Unless you have the means to spray mature trees, you may never get a product.

I wish we could go however, we will be heading north to Nebraska to celebrate my daughter's birthday. My husband was hoping that we'd get there (NE) early enough for him to go to Nebraska's spring game BUT since I was going to miss Alabama's, I didn't change our plans for him to make it!  Not that he's completely torn up about it, my former boss and friend, has offered him tickets to a game this fall. So he's all happy. Now, if I can just get us tickets to a Bama game. We went to the SC game last year and would like to go to a home game this year.

Back to topic, I'm gonna do my best to be there.

I hate it, of course I would if I could. I am disabled in my back and that long of a ride would absolutely put me down. I just have to watch on TV or read the in thread on the site. RTR!

I was one click away from hotel reservations when the date was announced.  I got out my calendar to double check dates and discovered I have a state convention that weekend.  I'm on the Board of Directors, so I can't miss it.  I'll be DVRing it to watch that evening.
