(http://media.al.com/sports_impact/photo/south-alabama-football-pro-day-march-28-2016-d87e29dcb9c62864.jpg)AJ McCarron and Tua Tagovailoa are now part of the same fraternity, that limited number of men who have quarterbacked Alabama to a national championship.

McCarron said Wednesday he nearly transferred to Ole Miss at one point early in his Alabama career before deciding against it and going on to be a two-time national champion and arguably the Crimson Tide's greatest-ever quarterback.

WOAH, hold the horses Mr. Stephenson.
Maybe AJ had the best-known girlfriend, but he ranks down a bit in greatest ever!!

I'll take a guess there's jump pass Harry then there's Joe Namath, pat Trammell, snake, Bart Starr, Jay Barker, Greg McElroy, and AJ

I am at a disadvantage.  Most of the ones on your list played before I was born.  Walter Lewis is probably the earliest QB I can remember watching.

Here is a list of the ones I can remember watching off the top of my head (in no particular order):

Tua Tagovailoa
Jalen Hurts
Jake Coker
Blake Sims
A. J. McCarron
Phillip Sims
Greg McElroy
John Parker Wilson
Brodie Croyle
Freddie Kitchens
Andrew Zow
Tyler Watts
Brian Burgdorf
Jay Barker
Gary Hollingsworth
Mike Shula
Walter Lewis

The earliest game I can remember watching was the Goal Line Stand, but I couldn't tell you who the QB was that day.

And here is my top 5 of the QBs I can remember actually watching play:

1.  A. J. McCarron
2.  Brodie Croyle
3.  Greg McElroy
4.  John Parker Wilson
5.  Freddie Kitchens

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tua is at the top of the list when he leaves.

My top two based on what I've read but I can remember Pat Trammell

Joe Namath and Stabler then I would say AJ and Jalen with Tua coming on. RTR!

Too many good ones to try and determine who was best. Different times with different offenses, etc. Out of every QB list in this post none played during the wishbone era. Terry Davis, Gary Rutledge, Richard Todd, Jeff Rutledge and Steadman Shealy were all pretty good. I would not say any of them were the best to ever play at Alabama but they deserve on the list. In a passing offense Jeff Rutledge would have been awesome.

What is your criteria? Championships, passing yards, total yards, number of wins, win %. AJ ranks up there pretty high in every category. I do not think it is a stretch to say he is arguably one of the best ever.

As far as pure QB talent, my top 5 would be:

1. Joe Namath
2. Kenny Stabler
3. Richard Todd
4. AJ McCarron
5. Either Walter Lewis or Jeff Rutledge

JMHO.

Just to clarify, I left those older guys off my list because I never watched them play, not because I don't think they belong.  I have no idea who was better between Namath and Stabler. or how they fit in with the guys I listed.  They are both top 5 though, no doubt about that.

Walter Lewis was a lot like Jalen IMO.  Gifted runner, but the offense was very one dimensional when he was in the game.

He actually had a good first half of his last year passing, The accuracy started declining as the season went on, though. As an overall QB, I thought he was one of the better ones.
