Title: Sark to Colorado?

Considering Nick Saban helped Mel Tucker land the Michigan State job, it would be somewhat ironic if the Alabama coach then lost one of his key assistants to the Colorado program that lost Tucker.

While there may not be much smoke suggesting that will happen, Steve Sarkisian has been named as a potential candidate for the Colorado opening since Tucker’s departure from the program.

Quote
Bill Bender of the Sporting News recently shared his thoughts on why Sarkisian to Colorado makes some sense:

This is a wild-card hire that likely won’t materialize, but Sarkisian — who was effective as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2019 — has taken on two head-coaching jobs in the Pac-12 at USC and Washington. If Colorado went this route, it would be similar to bringing Tucker on in 2018.

I hope it is a long shot.

Did Bieniemy turn them down?  He seems like the obvious first choice.

Whatever Sark's reasons, praise the Lawd he's staying!  Coaching stability is a good thing right now.

Saban's taking a page out of Dabo's book and paying his assistant coach enough to make him wanna stay.

Butch Jones moved from offensive analyst to "Special Assistant to the Head Coach."  I have no clue what that entails.

Maybe he did something to get himself in Saban's doghouse so now he has to stick close to the Master?    :dunno:

I would like to know just what Butch does that is worth the $$$ he is being paid.  Like Hanny, I have no idea what he does.

Well CNS may be using him to keep up with what recruits are doing while the coaches can't be out recruiting. Coaches at Bama work hard and a lot so Butch could help in that way. I don't know myself. RTR!

Butch Jones is being paid $35,000/yr from Alabama. It represents just a fraction of the income Jones brings in. His firing from Tennessee came with a buyout of $8.2 million. ... Since any new pay mitigates the buyout, that $35,000 from Alabama will subtract only minimally from the obligation Tennessee has to Jones through February 2021.

CNS must like Jones. Jones accepted an on field coaching position with Mike Locksley when he went to Maryland but CNS talked him into staying at Bama. This is his last year making $35K at Bama, due to UT buyout coming to and end, so look for him to move on after this year or move to an on field coaching position which will pay more.

Thanks pmull for this info.  I had wondered about his payout from UT, and am relieved that Bama is only paying him $35k.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like Saban is keeping Jones in his back pocket, maybe as a future offensive coach, or OC in waiting, which means Saban doesn't expect Sark to hang around after this year.

I don't believe Sark will be after this season especially if we win a NC. His name will be to popular and I would be surprised if it is USCw. RTR!
