He has a lot more coaching experience under his belt than when he was at Bama, albeit, not head coaching. I don't think he would do any worse than  the Redskin coaches over the past several years, with the exception of last year. I would pull for him to do well.

That's not a bad point, but not much of a compliment for Shula.

 Laughing Laughing Laughing

He hasn't done anything as head coach yet, except graciously take over a probation-ridden football team, to be complimented for. This could be his chance.

He graciously made $850,000 a year and graciously walked off with a $4 million dollar pay out. What a gracious guy.

He didn't exactly "walk off", my friend.

In the grand scheme of things, Shula has more coaching experience than most coaches currently in the NFL. I would guess with the connections and friends he has made along the way, that if he got the chance as HC, he would bring some talented asst. coaches with him. He would, indeed, be a much better fit as an NFL head coach than college. I would like to see him get his shot, anyway.

No matter how he left, he graciously left with $4 mil in his pocket (all the way to the bank).

IMO Shula was not mistreated by Mal Moore and the Alabama Administration. I have always been told he was given the chance to keep his job but he had to replace OC Dave Radar and he refused. The defense lead by Joe Kines was in good shape. Shula was loyal to a fault to his assistants. When he refused to make an OC change Mal Moore told him he was no longer the coach but his contract was not terminated. Alabama honored the terms of the contract which required Shula to be paid unless he found another job and at that point Alabama would pay him less what he made at his other job. Shula got every dollar he was entitled to under the terms of his contract.

I always liked Shula as a player and coach. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he gets a shot at a NFL HC job one day.

The story of Shula not getting rid of the OC & maybe other offensive assistants is what I have heard, too. Also, Shula would have not be allowed to continue the plays, since that was also a concern. I knew he would NEVER fire an assistant because his daddy had never fired an assistant in his many years as a HC. He said how could he ask for loyalty from an assistant if he wasn't loyal to them. this would cost Don Shula in the 1980's & 90's when he refused to fire his AWFUL defensive coord. They blew a golden opportunity since they had Marino as QB, but no D. By the way, if stay hd stayed, we would have lost out on Saban. Ironic.
