Title: Bama Basketball and Softball
Post by: Jamos on October 17, 2017, 09:52:26 PM
I got to watch the softball team practice this afternoon and saw some things that were very pleasing. Last year there were a lot of complainers, including myself, about the lack of coaching on the team that included about every aspect of the team. Today I went tp watch them to see just what goes on at their practices.

When I arrived the team was working on defensive skills such as correct throws with runners on base. This also included runners getting coaching on running the bases correctly on base hits. This included outfielders making their correct throws.

They then had batting practice and I was impressed with Coach Allie as she was working with each and every batter that included bunting, slapping, and fun swing hitting. I was pleased with her standing with each batter and making them aware of the things they were doing wrong and I could see their bat attempts get better after she would make corrections with them. I then went to the bull pen and VanBrackle was working with the new lefty. This must have lasted an hour and it was basically her  not throwing hard but working on her grip of the ball and her release of it. I spoke to her as I walked by and she came over to me as I wanted to see how tall she was, Mrs. J said she's a little taller then me.

I was glad I went because I was one of those last year that felt the girls were not getting the adequate coaching that they needed. Today I saw the coaches seen a lot of time with group sessions and one on one. I also went into the field house and the team has now purchased a pitching machine that the girls can use without anyone else there. I was told that Demi Turner lives with the machine and by her hitting this past weekend, I believe it. The field house is set up for the girls so they can pretty much have a full practice when they are all by themselves.

I enjoyed it so much I think I will attend more of their practices moving forward.

Tonight I went to Coleman and watched the basketball team scrimmage and enjoyed it very much as well. CAJ knows how to fire up his players as he is a hands on coach and doesn't mind getting the ball and showing them the right way to do something. I don't know how the team will perform this year and if it is bad, it isn't because they don't have the talent. CAJ is still putting a big emphasis on their free throw shooting and it is part of there scrimmage. Riley Norris is out with a groin injury but every else looked ready to go. Sexton is a player, fast and deadly with his shots, he can beat you from the outside and as well with his quickness on the inside. I don't think we will see them standing around on offense as we have seen in the past years if the play like they practice. They shouldn't have any problems with substituting this year either, lots of talent compared to past years.

Anyway, with the incoming freshman class and the transfers, they should be better and hopefully we can make it to the season without any major injuries.

Boy, Jamos, that sounds promising about the softball-team coaching, and especially about the new pitching machine.  We need better hitting.  Hope to get over there for some games this year.

Good news also about BB.  I'm eager to see Sexton play.
CAJ actually has them practice free throws?

We might be the only team in the nation practicing free throws.  Amazing how many teams shoot below 65% now.

Keep up the good reports, Jamos.   :worship: :worship: :worship:

Good stuff, J. Can’t wait to see both in action this year. Will give us something to talk about in addition to our football and golf Nattys.  :lol2:
