Interesting article and it even talks about Alabama. Note the size of the 1966 team!

Bama's lightweight players used to run rings around Oklahoma's heavy sides in bowls back then.

Wow, coach Bryant took skinny people and won National Championships. Today the kickers are bigger than some of the linemen. This is a bit surprising. RTR!

I also remember those fast little Bama players wiping up the field with those corn-fed Nebraska Cornhuskers back in the 60's.

It was Nebraska in the 72 Orange Bowl that made CPBB change to bigger fast players.

BINGO!!! The (then) 235-250 pound players became as quick and fast as our 190 pound guys and it spelled disaster. It took about 6-9 years for the Tide to catch up.

Thanks, KP, for posting this interesting article. Seems our fellow board members are seizing upon the opportunity to stroll down memory lane instead of focusing on the future of the sport. The medical finding and the spate of suicides are really troubling. I think the other important trend, not mentioned in the article, is the drive for the "sportcenter moment" big hit. All these things combine to push players to get bigger and to hit more and more viciously. Which is tremendously fun to watch as long as you don't think too hard about the long term consequences for the players.

The statistic that the life expectancy of players playing 5 years or more is just 60 is shocking. That means football is costing them 18-20 years of life.
