Kelsi Dunne was selected first overall and Whitney Larsen was the 13th pick as both Alabama players were drafted by the NPF Diamonds, Friday night in the National Pro Fastpitch Senior draft, presented by Miken from the Amway Center in Orlando.

The selection of Dunne first overall marked the second straight season that an Alabama player was taken off the board first. Charlotte Morgan was the first pick in the 2010 draft, selected by the eventual league champion USSSA Pride.

The SEC Gymnastic Championship starts this afternoon. Florida is ranked No. 1 in the nation but Bama is capable of giving them a run for the title.

Good luck ladies.

Kevin Turner's Rugged Road

Kevin Turner couldn't sit still on that April afternoon in 1992. The Alabama fullback tried to watch the NFL draft for as long as he could, but a combination of tension and monotony increased with each pick. Every 15 minutes another name that wasn't Kevin Turner was announced.....

Thanks for the updates guys.

Roll Tide.  Here is a story on the game.

Quote
No. 2 Alabama softball tops No. 1 Georgia to open three-game series

TUSCALOOSA -- When a pitcher inches toward a perfect game, superstitions start seeping into the dugout. Sometimes the pitcher will sit alone at the end of the bench. Often her teammates are concerned about disrupting the rhythm.

The only thing responsible for ending Alabama senior Kelsi Dunne's bid for a perfect game were some late-inning base runners for top-ranked Georgia.

Dunne was not perfect, but she was as good as she needed to be, leading No. 2 Alabama to a 2-1 victory in front of 2,922 at Rhoads Stadium on Friday night. Game 2 of the three-game series is at 7 tonight.

LSU Under Investigation

Last week, two NCAA investigators interviewed Trevon Randle, who signed with LSU last month, about his contact with Lyles, according to a source familiar with the situation. In addition to Randle, an outside linebacker at Clear Springs High School in League City, Texas, investigators interviewed his coach, Clint Hartman, and Randle’s father, Raymond Edwards.

Hartman declined comment last week about his meeting with the NCAA investigators. But in January he told FOXSports.com that LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley accompanied Lyles to Clear Springs High last spring in a visit about Randle.

If Lyles assisted in or was involved in the recruitment of any player to LSU, the NCAA would consider him a booster and any payment to him would be considered a violation of Bylaw 13. The rule prohibits boosters from directing a recruit to a school.

Finebaum Makes Incredible Comment About Auburn Today

I was listening to Finebaum and around 3 pm the subject of the 4 Auburn players arrested for robbery was brought up. Finebaum stated that Auburn better hope one of them doesn't agree to cut a deal or all kinds of bad things will come out about what's going on down there. A reference to a "thug culture" with all kinds of improper activities going on in the "family." He stated the Cam Newton matter was nothing compared to this.

I just made Chechum a moderator.  Right now the group we have doesn't really need a lot of oversight, but we are growing pretty fast.  It is only a matter of time before some of the troublemakers and trolls show up.  Hopefully we won't have too much trouble, but we figured it is probably better to make him a mod now while it is easy so that he has an opportunity to play around with the software and figure out how it works.  That way we will be in a position to act quickly if trouble knocks on the door.

Since I am giving +50 to the bloggers I think it is only fair to do the same for the moderators.  Thanks to Chechum, ssmith general, and Terrie1959 for helping me to keep the site clean and friendly.

I just set up a new board for hscoach to post his game analysis articles to so that he can publish them on the blog.  The board is located in the Blogs category and is called X's and O's with hscoach.  He is the only one that can create new topics in that board, but anyone can reply to his articles.

I also gave him +50 e-cred for agreeing to be one of our bloggers.  Please join me in congratulating hscoach and thanking him for all of the great game analysis posts that he has always made for us in the past.

Getting to know… Alabama’s Dareus

Alabama DT Marcell Dareus stopped by the NFL Network studios Thursday, and we took some time to get to know him as he prepares for the 2011 NFL Draft.

SS: So, let me ask you, how is it playing for Nick Saban? Because a lot of people think he’s like the Bill Belichick of college football, kind of a curmudgeon. What do you think?
MD: Everything they say about Coach Saban is true. He is hard-nosed, man. He doesn’t take it easy. He doesn’t cut any slack. The sense from him is if you could do it perfect, then why not do it perfect. Not almost perfect, why not perfect. He’s serious, and he’s always focused. That’s just how he is.

SS: How often would you find yourself frustrated or upset when he got on you about something?
MD: I didn’t really catch myself getting frustrated. After about two months of being around him, I figured out how he was. You just got to roll with the punches. You knew what he was bringing to the table. I knew what I was getting myself into. I signed up for it, and I had to get things done.

SS: Well, it is pretty clear that he got the best out of you, didn’t he?
MD: Of course. He’s going to get the best out of you. If he isn’t going to get the best out of you, then you’re not going to be there.
