Title: Les Miles resolution puts end to embarrassing chapter at LSU
Post by: pmull on November 29, 2015, 12:01:17 PM
Good move by LSU keeping Les Miles. They really handled this whole situation poorly and unprofessionally.

Quote
The last Saturday of November started with LSU coach Les Miles reportedly fighting for his job, or at least that's what a few rogue Tigers boosters wanted us to believe.

The night ended with Miles being carried off the field by his players after a 19-7 victory over Texas A&M at Death Valley. Once they finally put him down, he embraced his wife and children, as LSU's fans passionately chanted, "Keep Les Miles! Keep Les Miles!" Then he interrupted a live SEC Network on-field interview to sing LSU's alma mater, as only Les Miles would do, and tipped his hat to the crowd when he was finished.

I stated on another three that the behavior and actions or non-actions of the AD & President were shameful & lowly. Miles can't be too happy with them. If he goes out and wins big next year, he might decide to get rid of the AD.

Certainly there were boosters gunning for Miles' job, being the source of the initial rumors, even claiming Les said his goodbyes during a booster event.

These booster-initiated rumors proved untrue.

We don't know what role the university played, mostly because of their silence.  I expect they have to keep their big money donors happy.  Coming out and saying Les' job was safe in light of booster actions, and before the Aggies game, could only have come back to bite them, one way or another.  I expect a decision had not yet been made.

I love how the press got  "Holier than Thou" over LSU's actions, or non-actions, when they were the ones running with unsubstantiated rumors, and all the university did was keep its silence.  (Nothing pisses off the press more than when someone won't talk to them.)  I guess the press has to deflect criticism somewhere.

LSU's AD did not look happy announcing the decision to keep Les Miles.  Clearly it was not his call.  You have to wonder what LSU was thinking, or not thinking, during the entire affair.

Here is an entertaining and funny synopsis entitled:

The LSU power struggle was bizarre, and bizarre is where Les Miles thrives

To me the admin at LSU proved to be even worse than did anything CLM has ever or could ever do. If I had been him I probably would have quit, but my hat is off to him with humility and class he showed in all this. RTR!

I think LSU AD did the best possible thing they could.  If they had come out and made a statement before the aTm game they would probably look more foolish after he went out and won the game, was carried off the field by his players and the crowd chanting his name.  By holding off on any comment or actions it game them time to see how this game turned out and make a decision accordingly.  He (Les) won the game and kept his job.  I think had LSU lost to aTm then he would most likely been let go.  Also, I figure there was prior communication between the AD and Les regarding the outcome of the game and his job...
