With pitchers and catchers coming in this week and full-squad workouts about to start, I was wondering about the state of the CRS membership's favorite MLB teams. I like the Braves, but I am an Orioles guy, so I can really only speak to them.

I was telling Bro. Ricky (my fellow O's fan on here) that I think the O's could go either way this year. If Chris Davis and Adam Jones can bounce back average wise and our top three pitchers (Tillman, Dylan Bundy, and Kevin Gausman) have good stuff, then I think we can contend for at least a wild card, if not the division. But Boston is just so strong. I think they will be tough to beat this year. We've got a lot of power in the lineup, just wish we had some base stealers so we could manufacture some runs. If we stay healthy and play to our capabilities, then we will be in the mix at the end of the year.

Braves seemed to have made some good moves in the offseason that will hopefully keep them out of the cellar this year.

What say you guys? Pmull and your BoSox? Doc Lecter and your Dodgers? Other teams?

I don't know that the Braves made enough moves to make them competitive. They need to do something to fill the seats in the new stadium.

I really enjoyed watching the Cubs win it all last year. They've got the team to do it all again this year, though Ross will be hard to replace. He was the glue for them last year.

Braves fan here, who likes Orioles & Red Sox. Can't stand Dodgers & Yankees. Braves can't get a break. They signed Sean Rodriguez from the Pirates who can play second, first, & the outfield for $11 mil a year. He and his family get in a serious car wreck when someone hits them in a stolen police car. Everyone is seriously hurt (see link). He will miss entire 2017 season. Don't know if he will ever play again. The Braves signed a 43 and 42 year old pitchers as starters.

Man MD we are praying Sean and family to get well soon. I too have always been a Braves fan even though I have fussed ever since Bobby Cox left for them to get a Manager. I like O's from back in the 60's when then they use to be good. I use to have the whole team in Baseball cards along with the Yanks but I trashed them back in the 70's when I went into Service. lol, RTR!

Lifetime Cardinal fan. Spent many summer vacations during the 50's in St. Louis. Was as big a fan as you could find. Gave up on MLB after the 1994 strike.  College baseball is much more fun.  Kid's still playing  for the love of the game.

I am more interested in Alabama Baseball starting this weekend. Excited to see how the new coach will do. Pitching will be very strong. I hope we get better offense this year.

As far as MLB goes Boston will win it all.... I hope.

That's true, Leewillie. I still don't think a lot of fans have completely gotten over that. The only baseball I watched in 1995, was the last out of the World Series when Atlanta beat Cleveland. It figures that the only championship the city of Atlanta has ever won, was the year after a strike year when viewership was at an all-time low.

I've been a Braves fan ever since they moved to Atlanta, but I prefer college baseball as well.

I admire the Cardinals and their approach to management, playing, drafting, & player development, & overall success. They have most knowledgeable and best fans in baseball.

Yeah I am very interested in seeing how the new coaching staff will work out. Unfortunately, I can't get much Bama baseball up here, so what I get I have to hear through you guys and my dad.

And MD, I am trying to figure out how you like the Orioles AND the Sox.  Undecided

Try the ESPN app. It is great. I have to get access by signing in under my cable provider. You can get most games streamed live. I use a Chrome Cast device and watch it on my TV the same way I do Netflix. It works great. You can watch about any SEC sport this way.

One note about the Sox. I am going to miss Big Papi!

^^^This. The team will not be the same without him. To me, he was the face of the Red Sox.

I'll give this a try. Thanks for the info.

And you may miss Papi, but I won't. He killed our pitching!

How terrible must you be to get cut by the Braves?

Quote
ATLANTA -- Ryan Howard doesn't want to retire from baseball.

He may not have a choice.

The former National League MVP was released from his minor league contract Monday by the Atlanta Braves after he struggled at Triple-A Gwinnett, a major blow to the 37-year-old slugger's hopes of carrying on with another team after a long career with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cubs and Braves for me.  Braves since the days of Niekro and Aaron when I attended some games as a kid.  Cubs since the 80s when I lived there and had season tickets.
