Title: Wide receivers step up, Hanks returns
Post by: pmull on September 18, 2011, 04:31:14 PM
Nine Alabama players caught at least one pass. But perhaps none of those catches were more anticipated than the ones Hanks pulled in.

"Having Darius back is great for us. He's a great competitor that comes out and works every day. I could tell he was hurting those first two weeks not being out here with us," said another fifth-year senior receiver, Brandon Gibson. "He was calling us before games, wishing us luck, telling us what to do. But to have him back was a great feeling, to get a guy with that senior leadership come out and compete with us. He had fun tonight."

UA's leading receiver was Kenny Bell, who had a career-best performance with four receptions for 55 yards. Tight end Brad Smelley, a Tuscaloosa native, also caught four passes for 46 yards and helped set up the Crimson Tide's first touchdown.
