Title: *** SEC Basketball Tournament Thread ***
Post by: ssmith general on March 03, 2011, 07:12:36 AM
A little early, but WTH.

I was reading here (http://nems360.com/bookmark/12142860?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter) that Miss st. had secured the other west division first round bye.

Any bracket predictions?  I guess we wont know until after saturday?  I am a basketball idiot.

I hope/see Alabama with either Ky./Tn. which is not a big deal. I would like to see Alabama vs Vandy in the Championship game on neutral floor. No Ref's. making unnecessary calls. Let's see where the cards fall. RTR!

I just hope we can win Friday so I can go to the game Saturday.

Just curious, will ticket prices go down as teams are out of the tournament?

I am considering trying to get tickets for Sat now that I have the weekend free.

So is it set that we play the LSU-Georgia winner on Friday? That is the bracket I saw earlier in the day, and I didn't know if the Vandy-Fla. outcome would have any bearing on that.

Tickts are usually sold in packets which contain tickets for all the games. You may have to buy tickets off someone whose team is eliminated or doesn't want to see, say, Alabama. You can expect a lot of tickets being available if UK loses early.

Here's how I think it looks right now if UK beat UT Sunday:

3-Arkansas vs  6-USC
3-Vandy     vs  6-LSU
4-Ole Miss  vs  5-UT
4-UGA        vs 5-Barn

I think we would then play the winner of UGA/Barn game.

I think the way UF is playing right now, they should win this tournament.  To go into Nashville and win easily is very impressive.  Just hope Bama can get to the Title game which I believe would lock up a bid for sure.

I just realized something. Should this thread not be moved to the Coleman Colesium blog? I look forward to the tourney but I notice we have an enourmous amount of threads here, I was wondering if it was time to move our BB threads? RTR!

I was going to wait until we had all the other forums up and running before moving stuff.  Since a lot of people are just looking in the general forum right now.

That's even better. I tried to do that, but I'm basically a computer moron.

My picks for the First Day:

Barn vs UGA:       UGA (AU can win this game)
USC vs Ole Miss:  Ole Miss
UT vs Ark:           UT
Vandy vs LSU:     Vandy by 20

Second Day:

Tide vs UGA:     Tide in a very close game
Ole Miss vs UK:  UK (Ole Miss can win this game)
UT vs UF:         UF
Vandy Miss. St: Vandy

Third Day:

Tide vs UK:     UK (I don' think we beat them twice in one season)
UF vs Vandy    UF (great game, but UF is rolling)

Championship Game:

UK vs UF:      UF is rolling

Great set-up. It is where we can play either Vandy or Fla. that will be a great game. We do of course have to get by the first game, then Kentucky. I think we have a great chance to win it all and if we win 2 games no doubt we are a lock for a low seed. RTR!

Yeah, that's my concern, too. Plus, this is basically a home game for them. Beating the same team twice in a week is very hard to do.

I agree but our guys should be so fired up with all the 2nd guessing about how good they are, they should be ready to gobble up the Bulldogs. RTR!

What if we meet Florida in the finals, play a good game with a lead in the fourth quarter, and then lose in a close game when that Parsons kid takes over at the end.  All in year 2 under CAG.  If that happens, we might be in for a nice run in year 3.  :)  I wonder if Texas is supposed to have a good team next year...

I'll be wringing my hands with excitement if we get to the finals.  That's too much to hope for right now.

Yeah, one game at a time. The Georgia game will be tough the 2nd time in a row, especially in Atlanta. I actually think we match up pretty well against UK if we can get past Ga. I don't think Fl. will be as tough away from home, although they are playing their best b'ball of the year right now. I think Bama's in the dance, no matter what happens in the SEC tournament.

Title: Alabama Rallies, boosts NCAA Hopes
Post by: ssmith general on March 11, 2011, 07:22:54 PM
"ATLANTA - Alabama rallied from 14 points down in the final 7 minutes of regulation and pulled it out in overtime, boosting its NCAA hopes with a stunning 65-59 victory over Georgia in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Friday.

JaMychal Green scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Crimson Tide (21-10), which advanced to face Kentucky in the semifinals Saturday and surely improved its position heading into the selection of the 68-team NCAA field. "

SEC tournament notes: Tide's Hines pokes fun at ESPN bracketologist

'ATLANTA - A reporter in Alabama's locker room after the game said he thought he heard Joe Lunardi's name mentioned as players came off the court. That's ESPN's bracketologist.

How about it, Chris Hines?

"It was like an interview with Bart Scott," Alabama's senior forward said, referring to the New York Jets linebacker whose postgame remarks after a January playoff game made him a YouTube sensation.

"'Thanks for having my back, Joe Lunardi.' 'Thanks for having my back, ESPN," Hines said, laughting.

"You know? The more teams we beat, the further we seemed to go down. I'm thinking, 'Joe, when does that happen?'"'

Alabama's SEC focus should lock down NCAA bid after gut-check comeback to beat Georgia

"ATLANTA

Mike Slive said it as we chatted courtside at halftime Friday.

Despite all the hot air from the talking heads, Alabama vs. Georgia was not a play-in game for the NCAA Tournament.

The selection committee members won't play Alabama vs. Georgia in their heads during their deliberations. They'll play Alabama vs. Colorado, Michigan State, etc., etc., etc., based on their entire bodies of work.

The SEC commissioner, the former chairman of that committee, offered one more insight. No matter what the talking heads are saying, the committee members aren't listening.

That was good news for Alabama at that moment, down nine at halftime."

By staying in the moment to the end, Alabama was able to do something more than extend its stay here. It was able to put what should be the finishing touch on its NCAA Tournament resume. After all, the Tide is now 13-4 in the SEC and 5-2 against the SEC East.

YES.

I think a win today would be better than losing and getting rest. I think we are in but it will be a high seed - maybe a play in game. A win today and we improve our seed which will help us make a run in the tournament.
