So if we buy into the hype the Tua is the next coming of Stabler, Tebow and Mike Vick all wrapped into one Hawaiian Qb, when do we see him taking over at Bama?

Let's look at it from a different point. Yes Hurts was the Offensive Player of the Year in the SEC last year, but there were times were everyone was unsure if he could complete a 5 yard throw. And lets not forget Hurts was basically third string headed into Spring last year.

Do we just say hey Hurts is our guy because he made plays and stayed calm last year? Do we secretly root for him to mess up enough to see Tua?

Here is my real take. I hope Hurts goes out and lights up the passing game next year. I also hope Tua gets some playing time to learn. My fear is if Tua is as good as everyone says and Hurts gets just a little passing game going, that Tua will not be able to wait on his chance. (I pray that I am wrong) It's hard now for Players to stay 4 years in college if they are good. So Tua's 2nd year would be Hurts third and maybe final (Big Maybe). We had how many QB's leave last year because they were not going to overtake Hurts?
Competition is a good thing, but when does it also become a problem?

A few years ago, there was a QB competition between Phillip Sims and AJ. Both played in 2 or 3 games before a decision was made on AJ. At the time, neither were shining stars, but AJ developed into a top notch QB. What I'm getting at, though, is that Saban has let 2 QBs play in the past, albeit for only a few games.

The talent between Tua and Hurts is better than we've ever had under Saban, it would seem. I'm thinking he may do it again, although, I would rather see him redshirt Tua. If Hurts develops into the superstar we all think he will, he would likely be gone after his 3rd year. Tua would be a redshirt sophomore by then and he would have plenty of time at QB for Bama.

Would Tua be able to be that patient, though? Will be curious to see how it plays out.

Yeah that is the question, how patient will Tua be?

If we play Fresno State and start blowing them out of the water, who comes in as the back up? Do you burn that redshirt to get Tua playing time in case Hurts gets injured?

I think Tua will play this year. at least some.

IMO, if Hurts is the QB that runs the team and Tua is redshirted then by the time he gets the starting job, two years from now, he will be a redshirt sophomore.  We will then probably only get two years with him as the main QB.  Of course, that could also mean that we could have as many as four more NC's than we do right now too so that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...

Tua committed and enrolled early knowing Hurts was the starter. Hopefully that indicates he's waiting to wait for his turn if need be.

It is nice to know that if Hurts doesn't develop his passing game or takes a hard hit on one of his runs that there's a capable backup waiting in the wings.

I doubt Tua will redshirt as he enrolled early and is a year behind Hurts plus Bama has only 3 qbs on the team. I wouldn't count Tua out at all for playing time this fall, maybe even becoming the starter before the season is over.

I agree. I kind of doubt he becomes the starter but i think he will see playing time. and we may see that kind of an Offense for the next couple of years....if they are both good with sharing playing time. IDK

By the second game Jalen will still not be able to complete a pass further than 10 yds, Tua will come in and will look worse than Jalen did last season. At this point Saban puts in Jones and between Jones and the RB's Bama gets back to doing what they do best.

Well, after watching the A-Day game I have to say that I am highly impressed with Hurts improvement. He made some outstanding plays and is by far the best QB on the roster.
Tua was lucking that several other of his passes weren't picked off and I think that he is slightly over hyped.

Both looked great at times during A-Day, but both also made some mistakes. We'll have to wait until the fall to see if Hurts can make the throws he was making today consistently. I'm pleased with the state of the offense.

Hurts did look very impressive today but I wouldn't say that he is "by far the best QB on the roster."  He is very good and can wheel when he needs to but so is Tua.  The only real difference that I saw from them was when Tua was running the 1st string offense (late in the game) he was unable to complete a first down.  Not sure what to take from that because there are/were many factors involved.  Regardless, I think we are in excellent shape from a personnel standpoint right now.  Our experienced RB's should be fully healed by the start of fall practice as should SDH on the defensive side.  Hopefully the last loss will burn in all of their bellies all summer and the team will go into the 2017 season with a vengeance that won't quit until they have the NC trophy back where it rightfully belongs, Tuscaloosa...
