FWIW, ESPN is going with the story.  Don't think they would do this if they weren't sure it's happening.

Bama's D was never the same under Golding. Can't say I'm not glad to see him go.

Next up?  :popcorn2:

I am glad also to see him leave. He was a good recruiter but he couldn't develope the talent. If he can't do that what is the use in having talent. With a good coordinator we would have won both lost games by 2 TD's. RTR!

From a former Bama LB:

    COMMENTS
Alabama football fans no longer have Pete Golding as a defensive coordinator.

He moved on to Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin, freeing Nick Saban to find a coach to return the Crimson Tide’s defense to dominance.

Golding, 37, helped Alabama to three Southeastern Conference Championships (2018, 2020-21) and a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020, but his style did not result in the Tide having the respect factor on defense. Marvin Constant, a former All-SEC linebacker and 1999 SEC Champion at Alabama, gave a final assessment of Golding in Tuesday’s episode of The Bama Standard. Constant never saw Golding as a coach that players feared and wanted to run through a brick wall for.

“When I first heard the news that Pete was leaving, the music from the Wizard of Oz started playing in my head,” Constant said about Golding. “When they started saying ‘the wicked witch is dead’ and the munchkins got excited, that’s how I felt. I am like ‘we have a chance to get a real coach again.’ The excitement was real. The reality of it is how many careers did he ruin? How much money did he cost a lot of these young men? If we had the No. 1 class for a decade, we should have had multiple guys going in the first round of the last three NFL Drafts on defense. That has not been the reality. So, how many of these kids’ futures did he piss down the toilet with his lack of coaching? I am going to call it what it is. They were often confused, out of place, physicality was not there, and they were dominated. When NFL scouts turned on that tape, it was not good. I have several friends who coach and scout in the NFL, and from them, Alabama’s film was not good. I just hate it for all those young men because he cost them money.”

Man the thinking of costing them money kind of hurts but so does the Bama Standard not being met does also. Nobody feared us anymore especially Georgia. We need somebody that will make the guys want to make the opponent quit. RTR!

Now we see why Saban was so reluctant to make a change.   :wall: :wall: :wall:

The University hasn't made an announcement yet but, if it is Steele, thoughts?

Reaction:  A big sigh...  I can say "In Saban I trust" but still, this is an underwhelming outcome. I can't figure why Steele would want to do this.  Maybe he's getting ready to retire and CNS wants him as a 'place holder' or something.  If this was the best hire CNS could make, doesn't bode well for the future.

"Alabama hires Kevin Steele as defensive coordinator"

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2023/02/alabama-hires-kevin-steele-as-defensive-coordinator-espn-reports.html

“I think Kevin is just really sound, fundamental,” Saban said before the 2020 Iron Bowl. “You win with execution. Their players really do a good job of executing whatever it is they do. They make really good adjustments to take away what you’re trying to do. And the players play hard, and they play with a lot of toughness. I think those are all signs of Kevin’s leadership. But it’s always a challenge to play against him, that’s for sure.”
