The Crimson White is putting some pressure on CAG in this article. Sina is the point guard CAG wants in this class. I am not sure why he decommitted but we have a chance to get him back. Even if we sign him we still have one scholarship open. I hope CAG is looking to fill that scholly with a power forward.

Quote
The player the Crimson Tide wants and needs to secure – or resecure – is Jaren Sina.

Sina, a 6-2 point guard from Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, N.J., originally committed to Alabama as a sophomore, but he decommitted and chose to go to Northwestern instead. Since then he has been released from his scholarship with the Wildcats after the team fired head coach Bill Carmody.

He now lists his top four choices as Alabama, Northwestern, Seton Hall and Indiana. Sina plans to visit the Capstone on Thursday and make a decision on where he will play college basketball before the April 17 deadline.

If Sina decides to come to Alabama, he will join Releford, Trevor Lacey, Levi Randolph, Rodney Cooper and Obasohan to complete one the best crop of guards in the Southeastern Conference.

But if Sina spurns Grant’s offer, the Tide will lose out on an excellent 3-point shooter and pinpoint passer. It could be a big blow in what could be Grant’s final season in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson White is putting pressure on CAG to win next year and make the NCAA Tournament. They even state if he does not it could be his last year at Bama. I was surprised by these comments from the school paper.

Ricky Tarrant will not play next year for anyone since he has to sit out a year. I hope we get him for the following year. Releford will be gone then. I saw an article this morning that he is considering Bama, Auburn, UGA and GA Tech. I like our chances. Auburn needs him bad but he has to know Barbee will not be there in two years.

I can't say I am surprised. He has been there 4 years and has little to show for it and his $1.8 mil a year salary, especially this year past. I am still in his corner, but he MUST produce next year and we need to see some improvement in player development, like Lacey. I think Obasohan could be a sleeper at PG if everything else does not work out in recruiting a replacement for Releford.

I was a little surprised by the implications of the article as well, but I'd put more stock into Cecil Hurt foreshadowing Grant's demise (which he's done a little more subtly) should he not make the tourney next season.

I do realize that Tarrant will have to sit a year if he doesn't have a case for hardship with the NCAA (which I've heard nothing to make me believe he's even applying for it), but I don't think another guard is what next year's team lacks, at least not most desparately.

With all that said, I do believe that next year's team will make the tournament.  I believe we had a tournament-worthy team at the end of this season, and I can't imagine them being worse next year.

I agree with Hannibal to the most degree. Reasoning: this team had a big let down when they didn't make Big Dance. The NIT was not where they wanted to be. I think without the injuries we can be a lot better next year. We should have some meat down low. The shot % should be better if they work during the off time programs. JMHO. RTR!

We are only losing Steele, and he sat out most of the year any way, particularly at the end when we were playing our best.

I think the Tide should be much better next year with the play of Releford and continued improvement by Jacobs, Lacey, Obasohan, & Cooper. I have no doubt that Randolph will improve his game, because he works so hard on the court.  Lacey is the key, he must improve his outside shooting. Plus, I don't think making the Tourney will be enough in itself, at least one victory and even the Sweet 16 will be the expectation.

LOL! Hey, we're Tide fans so we look at things thru crimson-colored glasses. I really believe there will be improvement, but I thought the same thing this year. If we can't do better next year, look out! By the way, what are your feelings about our coaching situation the past 4 years? Just wondering.

I have mixed feelings.  I'm not ready to throw in the towel, but it does seem that CAG is still learning on the job.  Player development is one issue; while the guards did show some improvement this year, CAG has yet to recruit and develop an effective big man.  That is somewhat surprising considering that he played forward.  I'd like to see a bit more development of the incoming players too.

CAG's SEC record is better than CMG, but he needs to have the players playing at a higher level earlier in the season during non-conference play.  And while his teams can compete in the SEC, I'm not convinced that they can compete against the better non-conference foes.  It is like CAG figures out his team during the season, instead of implementing a plan from the get-go.  He is very good at using the talent he has, once he figures it out.  I do expect improvement next year, considering most of the players are returning.  I like the way the team hustles and plays D, but think there is much room for improvement on the offensive end.  Part of that is shooting, players missing open looks.  Part of it is the lack of an inside presence, with which Bama would be an entirely different, and better team.

While some people are talking Sweet 16, I don't see it happening without a decent inside presence.  That will require both Jacobs and Engstrom to improve dramatically, and/or quick development of the incoming freshmen.  Next year should be a banner year, with the returning talent and additions.  So I am cautiously optimistic.  The team definitely should make the NCAA Tournament, winning at least the first round, and compete for the SEC title (chance to win it unless Kentucky is as good as advertised).  Anything less would be a let down, and a coaching failure.
