I have had several handguns  and I now have a stainless Taraus 45 with gold accents. My approach is that if it comes down to having to defend my self I will not be looking to take prisoners. A story I heard years ago made me think about it. A Grand dad was out with a couple of his grand kids and three guys  came up to him when he had stopped and had gotten out of his truck. He refused to give the guys money and they shot him with a 22 hand gun, He falls back into his truck and comes out with a 357. Two of the three guys did not make it out of the highway. So for a handgun I would not consider any thing less than a 38.

My first gun was a Beretta 92FS. It's a good gun, but a long barrel, so not great for concealed. Then I got a Springfield XD 40 Compact. I love it. It is a little heavier than the glock, but it's got a sweet trigger and nice power. It's my every day carry gun. I'd love to buy a Desert Eagle 50 just for the fun of seeing people's reactions to it. But those cost a pretty penny, and I'm not sure I could shoot it with any acuracy. LOL

The 92F is a beautiful handgun. It as the first auto most police agencies used in the early 1980's. The 84F Beretta .380 is another fine handgun. The barrel on the 92F is 4.9 inches. If I carry a duty firearm, I like a long barrel. I still have fond memories of a S&W Model 19 .357 mag with 6 inch barrel I used to have.

I love my beretta. It's just fun to shoot, and it's so easy to keep clean. Another plus is that the safety is very good for gun users that are nervous about safety.

Please explain the superior safety, I am curious. My taurus revolver doesnt have one.  My ruger rifle has a cross bolt.

Thanks for the rifle advice. My son hunts w/Marlin 270, but wants
Something to plink with. Tactical sounds right up his alley.

The best selection of Ruger accessories I have found is at cabellas.  But unless you're not from here, you'll have to order online.  I think the closest is New Orleans.

Link

I dont know if you have modded a ruger before, but I literally think a 5 year old could do.  Just make sure the stock is for the barrel, you have to get special stocks for bull barrels.

If I was a kid having a modded ruger would be the absolutely coolest thing ever.  I am 34 and it's close.

The safety is one of the little flip-switches near the top of the receiver. The way it is situated is sich that you have to manually trip the safety, and it's something you can't do unless you mean to do it. The Springfield XD40, by comparison, has 2 safeties, one on the trigger and one on the grip. With the Beretta, you can chamber a round and not worry about an accidental discharge unless you manually flip the safety off. You can even pull the hammer back and pull the trigger, and the round will not fire. With the Springfield, and other guns like it, if you chamber a round, it is ready to fire, and if you put your finger on the trigger and hold it by the grip, you have taken the safety off and it's ready to fire. For a new gun user, the Beretta is great because it's harder to fire without meaning to do so. That's why I say it's better for safety reasons.

I use to have a Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum. that was a monster pistol it had the 12" barrell. It was very true on shooting. I could hit with it and I couldn't hit with no other pistol good at all. RTR!

I don't have to worry about my Glock going off unless I have to pull the trigger, and I don't have to worry about any safeties when I want to shoot it, grip or otherwise.   Cheesy

Here we go legal.

This is the before.  It has a 15 dollar tasco scope added and a 25 round clip.  It is the mini model, which retails around $300.  If you're going to customize, you may as well get the cheap one.  Hell, if you want the mini model, get the cheap on and I will give you my mini stock and barrel.

Here is the after.  It has the tactical solutions threaded bull barrel, with a compensator, a Hogue heavy barrel stock and a 50 dollar wal-mart 3-9X40 Bushnell scope.

Use either the Ruger 10 round magazine or spend the extra bucks on the 'steel lips' magazines, the ones with the plastic feeders start jamming after a couple hundred rounds.

I told Mrs Nalt last night that I'd like to have a .50 rifle.  Her response was, "what do you need one of those for?" to which I replied, "I don't need one, I want one."  She said that after we get our taxes that I can have $500 "mad" money to spend as I want.  Told her that I wouldn't be able to get the rifle that I want for $500.  But I'll take it... Wink

That's kind of my thought. I love shooting my ruger, but I dont see the point in my next rifle being anywhere in the middle.  I want the biggest and baddest... Wont happen for a long time.

On another note, and i have never shot one, but I know you can get 50 cal for the black powder rifles.  Someone back on TS was saying they are pretty fun to play with.  Anyway, you could get a lot of black powder guns and stuff for 500 bucks.

Yeah, I've thought about the black powder guns but I'd rather have one of the military types.  Just lock & load and fire away...
