Ok, recommendations for a handgun for the guys?
I am assuming you know little about guns. Revolvers are simple to operate. The woman carries a Smith Titanium .38. Plenty of knockdown, light, simple. Your carry permit instructors probably also conduct shooting classes, or you could use the SSmith method and blast your neighborhood with millions of rounds til you get it.

Need a little more info. Do you want to carry or is this primarily for home/car defense? Do you prefer revolver for reliability or pistol?

so are you a gun expert?  I want to apply for a concealed weapon license (I live in Florida). I am trying to figure out what small handgun would be best to have. Any ideas?  I'm not looking for a REAL expensive one.

Check out the Kel-Tec P-3AT .380 caliber. It's super light and compact and you can wear it in your front pants pocket and not even know it. It's a very affordable firearm. Also, police carry them for backup. Trust me on this one. Grin

The Ruger LCP ain't bad, either.

Yep, the Ruger LCP is my "summer" carry gun, and in my opinion, a better quality gun than the Kel-Tec P-3AT.

My winter carry gun is a Glock 22 (.40 cal).  Such a sweet, smooth gun to shoot.

I was pretty impressed with the feel of the Springfield XD .40 cal--very smooth trigger, etc.  But, they're just heavier than the Glocks.

Yep, Marshals really like the Glock 22. I like the Sig .357. I fired the one my wifes cousin carries as a Federal Air Marshal. Really sweet shooting. We all went shooting along with his wife and 14 year old son. The poor kid had NEVER fired a firearm. I brought my revolvers so he could learn about basic handgun shooting. His dad showed him how to use my Ruger GP 100, but I had to show him how to use speed loaders. He fired several of my revolvers and autos. The kid loved it.

The first time I shot a pistol, the slide came back and mangled my hand.  I prefer revolvers.  Cheesy

My first gun was a Beretta 92FS. It's a good gun, but a long barrel, so not great for concealed. Then I got a Springfield XD 40 Compact. I love it. It is a little heavier than the glock, but it's got a sweet trigger and nice power. It's my every day carry gun. I'd love to buy a Desert Eagle 50 just for the fun of seeing people's reactions to it. But those cost a pretty penny, and I'm not sure I could shoot it with any acuracy. LOL

Exactly.  If you get one, better plan on lots of time on the range, plus bring your wallet for ammo.

Heh. I just assumed that no one actually used a Desert Eagle. They just pull it out and wave it around and the bad guys wet their pants & run away. LOL. How much do rounds cost for the Desert Eagle? I've never ppriced it before.

It was sky high about a year ago (like all ammo), but now it's about $30/bx 20.  I had to look it up, but that's the same as it's been for 2 months.

I can't speak to the price because it was enough that the guy that took me shooting with his actually packed his own ammo. It made it fun picking up the used shells afterward.

I also suggest getting some ice for your hand if you shoot enough rounds. The next morning my palm was sore. (insert joke here)
