Title: Cowherd Rumor
Post by: CrimsonWing on March 01, 2011, 05:54:45 PM
Cowherd said today that he has a source that told him a "major" university will be outed soon by a big publication for severe recruiting violations.  He also said ESPN is researching this story and he will give more information when they get it.  His last statement was that it's NOT Auburn.

The only schools I could think of outside the SEC would be OSU or possibly Texas..no reason just than I dont think he'd come out with this for a school that is irrelavent

I would bet it's either Oregon or Ohio State. Oregon got too good too fast and OSU has been in deep sheet with player problems the last few years.

Did he say that it wasn't a school in the SEC?

He only said that it wasn't Auburn.  Most people will assume it is an SEC team but I think from his tone that we would be surprised by it

Sorry I just remembered one detail, he said it was a top 10-12 program.  Didn't say this year or overall

Are you guessing or do you have some info?

Guessing.

But recall that Arky was involved in the Dyer recruiting mess.  And lots more.

As long as it isn't us it doesn't matter. Although it would be nice to see Texas or OSU go down

"I received an interesting text about 10 days ago, and this should be very frightening if you’re a fan of college football, that a major program in this country is going to be outed very soon for major recruiting violations. It is a top 10-12 program. I know what I think it is according to both my sources; I received another tip last night. I went to Vince Doria, who is sort of the journalistic editor at this company. He had heard the exact same thing. We are pursuing this story with vigor. A major publication is about to unseat a major college football power on recruiting violations. I will tell you from my source, it is not — it is not — Auburn. I will leave it at that. It is a major program and a major publication. When we can validate more… I have not been able to validate it nor has this company. We’re both pursuing it."

"Earlier today, an Alabama radio host continued his interview onslaught by reiterating claims that, based on audio tapes he’s heard, Auburn and Tennessee offered a sizable chunk of change to the father of Cam Newton  in order to secure the now-former Tiger quarterback’s services.

Apparently, another major college football program is on the verge of being “outed” for allegedly committing significant recruiting violations."

Sounds to me like this will leak soon.  Too many people have "heard" the rumor.  Pun intended.

I just love it when they say who it's not, but won't just say who it is.  Tells you they are NOT very confident in the story.

I just editted my post above to add that I think too many people have heard the rumor for it to not leak. I bet we hear today.  I am beginning to think it's crap.  Like I read on twitter this morning.

I'll try to talk with my friend today and see if its real.  I've heard so much about UTe and Arky lately that I expect them (not that UT would be a surprise).

Its Oregon, Its a SI investigation

Taken from Oregonlive.com:

It's a Sports Illustrated investigation, not an NCAA investigation. When the story comes out tomorrow (as originally scheduled), the NCAA will have to examine the evidence and reach their own conclusion of what rules were broken. Actual sanctions could take 6 months-2 years to be handed down.

So of course they haven't "heard a peep" about NCAA violations.

From what I can gather, the investigation revolves around the recruitment of Lache Seastrunk, Tahj Boyd, and Anthony Wallace. All three had the same "family adviser" (agent) named Baron Cortez Flenory Jr.

Google Mr. Flenory's name, and you'll get a preview of what's going to be in the SI article.

Here is some stuff on the guy in question

That wouldn't be news.  Neither would Tenn.  If it's not news, I'm pissed.

With this it's not, no name stuff. I am thinking it could stuff to build a program. If CH did this to build his program I can see it going down afterwards. RTR!

Latest is it might be the UNC investigation.  That's hardly news, and they are hardly a top-15 team.  They'd better have something more than that or I'm ripping the radio from the wall.

 >:(

Plus, I like UNC, and I'm heavily invested there.

Funny I got a call this morning about a private investigations going on at Texas, even a board mod over at ShaggyBevo.com posted about it:

Quote
Moving on to some bad news for the program as a whole. The word we received is that an influential newspaper will be breaking a story that we've been sitting on since back in October. Of course we've given you snippets and hinted at the Gloria Allred v. Cleve Bryant fiasco, but it runs a lot deeper and has done more damage to the program than we've let on. To give you taste of what's about to hit, we've heard over the last few months that players have been interviewed and surveyed by lawyer types all season and it's been a distraction. Questions about illegal inducements, escorts, harassment of coeds, etc. have been pointed to players all season in some shape or form by legal eagles, and the effect on the team is obvious.

We haven't heard that any players have been dragged into the ongoing mess other than initial interviews, but the administration is a different story. And the investigation nor airing of dirty laundry isn't done by a longshot. It's not fair to the vast majority of the program because in reality we heard it was just a couple of guys who made really poor decisions. But it could end up being a black stain on a program that's already sucking wind and licking its wounds from 5-7.

Oregon & Seastrunk wouldn't surprise me and you guys forget how involved AU was with Seastrunk so if it's him AU could be involved as well

I don't think we are SURE of anything. Just tons of rampant speculation and rumor.

Glad to see you here.  I like it.

Good call on Oregon.  I'd ask Masoli about it, but he's skipped right out of Mississippi to San Francisco (without his graduate degree - what a surprise). :(

Lars Anderson the SI guy was on Finebaum yesterday. He hinted at a huge story coming out in SI in a couple of weeks spelling trouble for a team "in this area".

Now even non-blog national guys are resorting to the very teaser BS they are crucifying Scott Moore for.       :'(

Well alot of names have been mentioned here, if it is Oregon then Kelly may never get another job or whoever it is for that matter. It just makes me wonder what ever happen to manhood in college coaches. I am talking about the manhood of being a man Honest with your words. Give the Big 10 credit, they have an unspoken law if a recruit commits to one school the other schools leave him alone. That is what I read, no link. I heard Fowler say it on Gameday also. RTR!

Yah, I posted yesterday I thought it was either Ohio State or Oregon. Oregon got too good too fast was my reason for guessing Oregon.
