Title: Good grief.........being on call
Post by: #1Tidefan on March 19, 2011, 01:46:37 AM
You know...this sux. I just get home @ 0200 in the mornin and the AOD calls from the hospital (I work at a military hospital) and says a toilet is stopped up.

Give me a break. I asked the shift supervisor to move the patient because it's NOT classified as an emergency. The OIC, a butter-bar 2nd lieutenant informs me the patient does not want to move......

%$#@...I'm on my way.

Is anyone else on here on call, have similar problems not associated with maintenance of course, but other issues?

To a degree, yeah #1. Long as I'm at work on my boat,I work 12 hours on,and 12 off. I'm subject to being awoke anytime during my 12 hours off for anything going on with the boat. Once I hit dry land and head home for Bama,I usually have nothing to worry about unless another Captain has emergency and has to get off. Then I'm subject to being called back. I agree,it stinks but what are you gonna do?

Nothin I can do ole friend. The resident plumber would not answer his phone, and i can tell ya we will have a 'come to Jesus meetin' come monday...

From an engineering/maintenance standpoint I really don't mind. But when someone blatantly tries to flush a sanitary napkin w/a half a roll of TP...I have a problem w/that.

The guilty party will be held accountable, and the E-4 will be to...

I hope my pager stays silent for the rest of the Weekend....Please!

I don't miss being on call.
I hated being tied to the phone all weekend.

Thanks ricky, but unless I bring my laptop to work, I can't access this sight due to MEDCOM security protocols. I can hitch a ride on a community wifi the hospital has set up though. ;D

On call every third week. Will be on call next week and usually get a plumbing call. Wal Marks is the worst. Idiots that like to steal and try to flush the package instead of throw it in the waste can.

I'm 24/7, course not often a call comes in the middle of the night unless we're already dealing with some kind of weather issue....

24/7/365 - I carry a leash (blackberry) and unfortunately it's Verizon so it works everywhere.

I have been fortunate enough to have evaded the crackberry up to this point. Let's hope the higher ups continue to think I'm not worthy!  ;)

Yep, I've been "on call" for 25 years, 6 months, and 15 days now to Mrs Nalt.  Fortunately the "duties" required when I'm called mostly tend to be rather enjoyable... :P 8)

Ditto but no cell service (national quiet zone) so I'm tied to 3 lap tops and a dedicated land line. I sleep in increments. I have to call Houston for "permission" to go through the gates. Went fishing last Saturday, before that it was maybe around Thanksgiving. Took a whole day a couple weeks ago for working on my own property.

 8)...you're hen-pecked P...lol

I was told by my supe, that I could turn my pager OFF after-hours. The AOD is supposed to call him, or the division chief, or the Colonel after my shift ends. The plumber got raked over the coals by the Chief, then ME btw. >:(
