Has college football come to the win no matter what?  The best two examples I can give are Jo Pa and Jim Tressell(sp).  These were two of the most respected men in college football.  I am not comparing what JT did as to what JP covered up, but was winning so important that they looked the other way?  Too me JP has lost more respect than any coach could.  The ideas of wins, passing people didn't matter, goes completely out the door.

He knew what was going on and just HOPED it would never come out. He could have stopped this 10 years ago-- people would have actually looked up to him. Instead, he tried to ignore it.

I'll bet teams are praying not to get paired with PSU in a bowl. Pedaphilia will be the storyline for the game-- not football. Paterno will long be dead and gone before other schools will want anything to do with them.

We may not have to worry about PS going to a bowl. I read that if offered, they would turn the bid down.

I read that somewhere too. I also heard tOSU would turn down a bowl bid. So far, Miami is the only school that I have heard say they would decline a bowl bid.

And to think that just a few weeks ago, PSU  had one of the most respected football programs in the country. Now they are nothing, thanks in part to JoePa.

I still feel that someday Auburn will get what they have coming from the NCAA . I know what they have coming this Saturday and they might be better off taking what the NCAA would do to them. 

I think you have hit on something that has occurred in college sports. Remember how it used to be about character and integrity, like how Coach Bryant suspended Joe Namath right before the Orange Bowl, for haveing ONE drink. Now, you have sleaze bags like Paterno talking about these things but doing the exact opposite with his actions. The sad thing is, everyone bought into his act, including most fans on this website.

CNS tries to run an honest program with class young men but I think the integrity and class has been left out of college sports. I'll go play where i think I can get most time for me, my name in lights. All the jaw-jackin they do today, my would have run you the next week till you beg to never jaw jack every again. Were dressed appropriate and if our britches was down below our knees we would have run the bull ring so long we would have been 6" shorter when we got done. RTR!

College Football is Broken

I remember looking at old yearbooks from the early days of college football and wondering at how innocent of a time it appeared to be. Football games in the 1920s and 30s were about school spirit and college camaraderie .

Game days were a chance for students to get out and do something fun. Football was about and for the students, the faculty, and alumni.
College football has lost any of the innocence and tradition that it once held in the old days.

Unfortunately, the halcyon days of college football are long gone, never to return. But that doesn't mean they need to be replaced with a complete moral and ethical breakdown in the college programs. We may never be able to turn the tide on what has become an industry in its own right. College football is a juggernaut of cash, and no one at the NCAA seems to be losing too much sleep over the obvious problems in today's college football.

Things have changed so much over the years in football, college and pro. I remember when someone scored a touchdown, they acted like they had been there before. No show-boating. In fact, back then, if someone spiked the football, they were penalized. Now it's a Broadway production. It is really upsetting to see the taunting mentality of many athletes today. I'll take the humble, give it all for your team, selfless play of yesteryear over the crap of today's "Look at me" player, any day of the week.

Great points.  That is the main reason I really don't like watching pro football.  But where do you draw the line?   In the college ranks when is it excitement vs "look at me"?  I hope I don't make anyone mad here, but look at when MI scored TD's at Bama, was it his excitement or showboating?  I want to believe it was his excitement.  However, if you are a fan of another team I am sure they would consider it showboating.
