DId you see what Derrick Henry did last night? Holy crap. I hope he committs to bama. He could be another TR. Also, I watched St James (Mtgy) play Bullock County. The QB for St James is a good QB. He's incredibly fast and has  agood arm. He made some really good throws last night. I don't think Bama or Auburn is recruiting him (he's a Sr.) but he probably will play Div I ball somewhere, probably as a RB or DB.

I made this topic sticky so we don't have to go find it every week.

In Week 5 all teams play non-area games. There are several good games tonight between highly ranked teams.

No. 1 Hoover at No. 5 Vestavia Hills
No. 3 Auburn at No. 7 Gadsden
No. 4 McGill Toolen at No. 8 Daphne

No. 6 Austin beat Athens 34-0 which makes me happy. Austin goes to 5-0. We play Hazel Green next week at home.

No. 1 Hoover 35  No. 5 Vestavia 15
No. 3 Auburn 49  No. 7 Gadsden 24
No. 4 McGill Toolin 38  No. 10 Daphne 21
All other Top 10 teams won.

Decatur knocked off 5A No. 1 Hartselle 21-14. Hartselle went undefeated last year and won the 5A title. The were riding a 19 game win streak.

Hoover and Clay-Chalkville are a cut above everyone else from what I can tell. I don't know much about Auburn but they may be in that category too.

They may be, but I just wonder about their defense giving up 24 pts, when they have the great Reuben Foster back there, along with all that other talent that's been so hyped.

All teams go back to region play this week. There are not many games featuring two highly regarded 6A teams. The best game of the week is No. 7 Carver-Montgomery @ No. 3 Auburn. That game will be live on ESPN.

Hazel Green (4-1) visits No. 5 Austin. Hazel Green is not ranked but they would be 17th based on votes received. They are pretty good. It is Austin's Homecoming. Both of my kids will be home this weekend hoping to see some of their friends at the game.

I see where Carver-Montgomery stomped a mud hole in Reuben's Raiders 46-20.

Pmull's Austin beat Hazel Green 23-13.

Austin came out slow and played poorly but still managed a 23-13 win over Hazel Green. We had a punt blocked for a TD to go behind 7-0. The game was tied 7-7 at the half. We took control in the 3rd qtr and built the lead to 23-7 before giving up a late TD for the final score of 23-13. We did not play our best game but got the win without much doubt in the 2nd half.

Austin improves to 6-0 with a road game to James Clements next week. James Clements is a new school this year (spin off of Bob Jones who was the largest school in the state) and their team is struggling as most new programs do.

Congrats to Austin HS. Looks like they should be playoff bound.

We are in the playoffs already. We want the # 1 seed. The top two seeds stay home in the first round so that is important.
