This is just plain awful and I bet McCann never recovers either.

Dang, that's terrible!  This is the first I've heard of it.

Oh man, that sucks. I hope Luis can recover enough to coach again. And I feel awful for McCann. You know that this has got to be killing him.

Just one eye?  So he can still see? That's terrible but he's lucky to be alive and that sounds like an almost full recovery.

I guess the "good" news is that the Braves are going to keep him. He's still got a job!
It's horrible that they couldn't save his eye, I agree. Sad

Tough adjustment for someone 54 years old. I'm sure he's happy to be alive, but still a horible situation.

Terrible news.

I'm sure it will be a huge adjustment.  But, I'm glad he's alive.

Sorry for the sad news.  Glad he will recover otherwise.

Baseball can be scary.  I was at the Astros game where Berkman hit a line drive into the pitcher's head.  Luckily he was fine.  My worst experience at a game where we were sitting low on the first base line and a foul ball flew past my husband's friend and hit a kid behind him in the face.  My husband is a catcher and he if had been sitting in his friend's spot I think he could have caught it.  Instead, this kid's teeth were scattered on the floor with the popcorn.  We were literally digging through popcorn trying to find this kids teeth.  The sad part is the kid was the catcher on his LL team and they were there as a team celebrating the end of their season.    Sad

I agree. Hope he can make an excellent recovery and coach again.

A lot of people don't realize how dangerous baseball can be. The lack of contact between the players seems to make people think it isn't dangerous. A lot of high school fields have open dugouts with not type of barrier at all in front of them. When I played, you never took off your glove in the dugout unless it was a covered one with a chain link fence or some type of netting. I've seen a lot of people get hit in the dugout because they weren't paying attention or didn't have time to react.
