I’ve been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant until I see his wife. If she looks the part and she’s a D1 recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. That’s part of the deal. There’s a very strong correlation between having the confidence, going up and talking to a woman, and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being articulate and confident, than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him.
 

It may be true, but he could have put it differently.  How do you judge a "D1 recruit" wife?  Ask CGM.

This subject was already posted, but the relationship between his assistants and there wives will never be the same. It'll be the 300 pound (no offense) gorilla in the room at every team social event. No small matter for Vandy to deal with.

I don't know why this is getting so much attention. He was just trying to make a joke. It turned out to be in poor taste but still a joke. I don't know why the Vandy folks care. They don't take their football serious and never have. They play in a 47,000 seat dump of a stadium that is the worst in the SEC. They don't even have a real AD. I don't know what they do with all the money they make off being in the SEC but they don't put in back into the athletic department. When they get their check this week at the SEC meeting in Destin they will laugh their azz off all the way back to Nashville. They have been on a SEC free ride for years.

Football pays for all the other sports at Vandy. He may have been kidding but he left an unforgettable memory in the minds of the less attractive wives of assistants at Vandy. Probably every coaching family in America is taking inventory at their house. LOL

I think they are different skill sets:  approaching women versus selling your program to recruits and their families.  Unless that is how Franklin approaches recruits -- "How would you like to come over to my place?"
