Is the NCAA headed for a crash landing?

Personally I don't think Houdini could get out of the mess that the NCAA has created for themselves. The old saying of "spare the rod and spoil the child" might just fit this NCAA mess. When the NCAA lets these issues ride for up to 5 years before making a decision on the penalties to be handed down, it only opens the door for other players to do the same things because they don't care what happens, they have since left the school when the NCAA gets around to handling their case.

This could be the beginning of the end for the NCAA, something that most folks have wanted for a long time.

I've always wanted the CFA back. They use to have great neutral announcers. To them it didn't matter who won they was there to call the game only. Players was treated fairly, games were big time exciting. Fox and NBC had games just like now but they got a bigger choice. I hope the NCAA is brought to an honest knee dropping because they never punished other teams. The NCAA has been after Alabama ever since it's inception, that is why now all these other programs are getting caught. They were never monitored before. JMHO. RTR!

I have no great love for the NCAA, but I do wonder what would be worse: absolutely zero governance or the system we have in place now. The ideal situation, of course, would be for the major conferences to come together and form an organization that actually has some teeth instead of one that routinely slaps the wrists of most violators. If the schools themselves would actually take more of a proactive stance against crap like this, there might be a better chance of cleaning up college athletics (notice I didn't say cure the problem. I don't think there is any way to completely clean up the college sports landscape, but there has to be something better than what is currently in place.

I think the overly aggressive to ALL schools would be better. When you are fair as we know we are, then aggressive doesn't bother me. RTR!

Agreed, MD. I also think it would help the NCAA to be more open about their investigation process. I'm not saying getting into specific institutions so that an investigation might be compromised, but giving more information on how inquiries are handled, what consequences are possible, and what are considered violations. Trust, I think, is a huge issue for those who can't stand the organization.

I don't think NCAA will crash & burn.  More likely either they will respond like a cornered animal or they will become one of Gen. Mcarthur's old soldiers and just fade away.

Major conf college presidents probably don't have the will to do something different right now, but if NCAA doesn't get its enforcement act together, a year from now the Pres's may be forced to do something.  For example, if the press finally breaks the real true story of $Cam & the Barn, then NCAA's enforcement division would have soooo much egg on its face that something would have to change, either at NCAA or with some new organization.
