Four downs: Talking Blake Sims, redshirts, Alabama's offensive line and more

Quote
As Nick Saban said to start his post-game press conference, this was Sims' first true opportunity to run Alabama's offense rather than simply run out the clock. He made it clear to Sims that he wanted to see passes, not runs, because Sims could have had a field day running the ball against Georgia State if he really wanted to.

The result was an efficient 14-of-18, 130-yard, one-touchdown, no-interception performance that saw Sims run the show for more than a half. ...

Good, long article:

1. So, is Blake Sims our future QB?  Or is he our insurance QB?
2. Offensive line changes, experiments;
3. List and discussion of redshirts and young players;
4. How our offense has evolved this season, especially the passing game...

Could Sims be Bama's version of the hurry up spread offense in the future?

I don't see Sims as a future starter.  He can complete short passes, run the Wildcat, but that's not Bama's offense.

I agree with Jamos, surprised we didn't see another QB (Alec Morris) out there on mop up duty.

The only way that Blake Sims is not our CLEAR number two at this point (Alec Morris, we're all looking at you), is if the "real" number two currently has a redshirt on his back.  There's absolutely no way that the staff sees Morris as a viable contributor this season and he didn't play in that game (unless he's injured).

Agreed.  And they may still have some packages for Sims, perhaps running the wildcat in unique situations.  But AJ is so good, I doubt they would take him out of the game for that.  Next year, the QB competition will be intense, with all the players signed.
