With all the attention turned to the removal of Confederate symbols – as well as some that pre-date the Civil War by hundreds of years – it was only a matter of time before sights moved to the giant carvings of three Southern generals on Stone Mountain.

That's happened now as the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP is calling for the removal of the giant images of Confederate generals Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis that are carved into the north Georgia mountain.

This has GOT to stop!!!

When Forrest's cavalry surrendered in May 1865, sixty-five blacks were on Forrest's muster role, including eight in Forrest's Escort, the general's handpicked elite inner circle. Commenting on the performance of his black soldiers, Forrest said: "Finer Confederates never fought."

Yes, very interesting.

Let's get real; slavery was wrong.
But misrepresenting history is wrong too, as is the effort to remove memory of it.
The Klan ruined the Battle Flag for Southerners.  I get it.
But ripping down memorials that represent men who fought for their states is wrong too.  Men fought for pride, and seldom had a real choice of which side to support.
Hopefully this frenzy of civil-rights behavior ends positively, and results in better relations among our citizens.

It's a sad, complex history that has been over simplified.

ricky, down in Foley near my parent's house are huge grass farms, including the one that supplied the Super Bowl.  It's a great place to watch the grass grow, especially since you don't have to mow it.
