The first phone I can remember my family having looked like the standard model T in this pic and we were on a party line.

was it ? two longs and one short ring or two shorts and a long ring if the call was ya'lls ?

 

The first person on the two party had the long ring and the second had the two shorts.

My mom and I were just talking about party lines last week. Our first phone in Tuscaloosa was a party line. I don't remember it though. I do remember that ugly phone though.

We had a party line when I was growing up. We were on with my grandparents and the Longs across the street. Our number was 491-4100! So was was the others.

You see this comment a lot, but (in reality) the tiny speaker in a telephone limits loud and/or piercing sounds.

Cell phones might limit the sound, but I'm pretty sure the recipient of the sound would get the message

It may not work anymore. I haven't used the whistle in years.

My husband works for a cell phone company.  I said that I thought someone at LSU either worked for a cell phone company or had a friend who did. He said that with the company he works for, if an employee looks up someone's number for no reason, they are fired. Period! No questions asked. I guess someone looked up B Obama's blackberry number. Was fired immediately.  They don't tolerate the invasion of privacy thing.
I hope someone finds the person who is doing this.

SIAP but this was what JPW was complaining about when he made the "phone call" gesture that led to a unsportsmanlike penalty. Also LSU.

Reminds me of my parents old phone.
