Title: Chiznik Issues Denial About HBO Report
Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 31, 2011, 10:23:39 AM
I think he's more upset as being protrayed as being out of touch with what's going on.

Auburn Got H B O’d
By Thomas Johns
SouthernPigskin.com

When former Auburn standout Stanley McClover spoke to HBO last night, the NCAA was listening.

It’s no surprise Auburn University declined Tuesday night to address specific claims by four former football players that they received money from boosters while playing for the Tigers.

Just a few months out from addressing the Cam Newton “pay for play” scandal, and a couple of months out from celebrating their BCS Championship, again the NCAA’s eye and energy will be focused on the Tigers.

Wednesday night's HBO Real Sports telecast featured former Auburn players Stanley McClover, Troy Reddick, Chaz Ramsey and Raven Gray saying they received money from boosters while at Auburn.

“I didn’t want to go to study hall. I wasn’t worried about class. I was worried about money. I wanted money”, said standout defensive end Stanley McClover. McClover stated in the HBO telecast he received $1,000 per sack when Auburn played Alabama.

Nothing new.

I think the wait for the lid to blow off taking so long, is that the transgressions are wide and far reaching. There is no telling how long it may take the NCAA to sift through this dung heap.

Former Dillard football coach denies McClover's accusations (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highschool/football/broward/fl-stanley-mcclover-hbo-booster-aubur20110330,0,2735568.story)

Quote
Scott was surprised when former Dillard football star Stanley McClover said he had received money from Auburn University football coaches during recruiting visits on the Dillard campus...Present during the interview that took place at Dillard in February, Scott said he was shocked that McClover said he had taken money from Auburn coaches inside the school football office.

"Nothing like that ever happened," said Scott, a security guard at the school. "I was at every meeting and I'm not sure why he would throw Dillard under the bus like that.

I don't remember McClover saying anything about coaches.  i though all of his money/contact came from boosters, so I didn't know what his HS coach was getting at here.

Also, find it interesting that the former HS coach is still on at the school as a security guard.  Must be a strange dynamic for the current coach.

Quote
The Dillard football program has been a pipeline for Auburn dating to the early 1990s, when James Bostic, Otis Mounds, Frank Sanders and Calvin Jackson went to play at the university. It continued with players such as Junior Rosegreen, Charles Dorsey, Pat Sims and most recently with Antoine Carter, who just graduated from the university.

Not sure of the Dillard student body, but that seems like an inordinate amount of D1 talent all going to the same out-of-state school.  Maybe the old ball coach/security guards has his own motives to disagree with McClover's recollection of the events.

My opinion:  Eddie Gran was the key.  He's now at FSU.

Finebaum strongly hinted at this on his show yesterday.

Seriously?  Did he name Gran?

I thought I had posted the answer, but I don't see it. Finebaum named Gran but without using the word "key." He strongly hined at Gran being a "problem" withut just blatantly saying it. I was surrised when he said his name.

Thanks, MD.  I only heard Finebaum for a few minutes yesterday, so I missed that part.  Gran was tight with Tubby for years, and seems to be the bagman.  I'm waiting for the investigation to divulge it.

Smitty, seems to work fine for me today.

Must be me, I never listen so who knows.  This tweet is hilarious though,

WMack RT @finebaum: What Chizik should've said "It's obvious we don't pay our players. Otherwise they wouldn't be robbing [people] at gunpoint"

True, but I think there are a lot more things that separate Cheezik from CNS: talent, brains, coaching acumen, a great head of hair, Miss Terry, the PROCESS, and just all around good looks (yeah, I said it!!! Anybody dare disagree??!!!)

to hear cheez tell it auburn is the only one getting bashed on this p4p

I thought the report the player gave on OSU was more damaging than the one he gave on au ...

'osu had a party we went to'
'there was a room full of girls at the party , he (osu guy) said pick one'
reporter: did she offer you sex ?
'yes'
reporter : did you take it ?
'hell yes'
'the osu boosters gave me lots of money too'

au didn't offer any girls but he still picked au over osu
the money must have been large

This is so sad that the kids just out of H.S. and out of broken homes and poor sometimes, are thrown to lions of glamour, sex and nastiness. No wonder they are grabbing at anything that glitters. RTR!

I don't want to sound mean, but Chiznik has never impressed me. He comes across like Ray Perkins, distant, cold, not real bright, and basically a big bore, not to mention a total phony.

Didn't want to start yet another thread, so thought I'd post this link here.  SIAP.  Very interesting.

http://www.teamspeedkills.com/2011/3/31/2082514/auburn-hbo-special-chaz-ramsey-cam-newton

"...The NCAA will investigate.

Both an official talking to CBS's Dennis Dodd and a statement released by the SEC indicate that the NCAA will be investigating the allegations as well. That is where things get interesting.

The Auburn players didn't name any names last night because they had no hard evidence as proof. They did give some names to HBO, but in the absence of hard proof, the network chose not to air any. You can be sure that they will give those names to the NCAA. In addition, Chaz Ramsey has been putting other allegations about impermissible benefits for Auburn players on his closed Twitter feed since November that he didn't mention last night....
"

The twitter info on Ramsey is news to me.  More and more interesting.

Remember the old saying? "Perception is everything, and can be more damning than reality".

Well, Auburn - you're pretty much damned.  Regardless.
