Title: kiffin hired per espn

Alabama has hired Lane Kiffin as the Tide's new offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN.com.

Kiffin was fired as USC's head coach in late September after a 62-41 loss at Arizona State. He registered a 28-15 record with the Trojans following a one-year stint at Tennessee, where he was 7-6.

The 38-year-old Kiffin visited with Alabama coach Nick Saban before the Allstate Sugar Bowl "to share ideas and exchange ideas ... [for] professional development," Saban said at the time.

"Lane is a really good offensive coach, and I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for him," Saban said then. "Just to come in and brainstorm a little bit to get some professional ideas with our guys is a really positive thing."

Well spring practice just got A LOT more interesting. I actually like the move, even if I am not a huge fan of Kiffin's past persona. If he can get this offense going in the right direction, I am all for it.

To me, this is a bold move by CNS and an indication that he wants significant change in the Bama O.  And that's good.  Could also be a plus for recruiting guys on O if they believe that Bama's O will be more 'wide open.'

But I still think Kiff is a jerk and hope he won't cause tension on the staff.

Whatever...let's look forward to nice pix of Ms K.

The Aubs can no longer say that Saban is the biggest jerk in the state!

Personally I think Kiffen may get on his knees and thank God for this opportunity. I think we will see a new Lane Kiffen in his tenure as the OC at Bama. ;)

I like the hire. He was a great OC. Look what he did for Matt Lienart. Remember he will stay away from the media. He will speak publicly in August and at bowl time. This could be good for Kiffin. He can focus on getting a new qb up to speed and enhance the offense. In 05 Reggie Bush won the Heisman and Lienart put up unreal numbers.
The negatives will be watched by CNS and compliance. I don't see any shananigins like he had at ut.

Living in Tennesseee my ut friends are having a field day with this. All I can say is get your popcorn ready for October 25 in Knoxville. I hope those rednecks don't flip our busses over. That said, welcome CLK to Bama.

Just think what he can do with the stable of running backs and quarterbacks that he has to work with. If Kirby can get the defense where it needs to be again, Bama will win the NC again next year, easily. ;)

This says enough to make me think this is a good thing for Bama...

The Trojans averaged 49.1 points and 579.8 total yards per game when Kiffin was offensive coordinator.

One thing that a lot of people that may not agree with or question this hire is that they must realize that Coach Kiffin will not be allowed access to the media but twice a year. Once in Fall Camp and Once or twice in Bowl Season. So that takes away most of his bad rep, because he does not know how to keep his mouth shut when he is in front of the media. But they also need to remember that because of that and him being let go from USC in the manner it happened he now has to rebuild his reputation in the College Football eyes showing that he can do the right thing and not be such a butt to everyone.. So look for him to be a workaholic just like the rest of the staff or maybe to an extreme that has not been reached yet!! You can also bet money that coach Saban has placed the line out there for him. "Lane we do things a certain way here and that is the only way things are done"!! "It's my way or the highway"!! Now down to the nitty gritty. Kiffin is an excellent Pro Style Offensive Coordinator and a Big Time recruiter!! Not only does my mind relish the thoughts of what our offense may look like next year, but this could very well land us a recruit or two in this signing period that maybe we did not have a shot at until now!! Only time will tell but I believe that this is a good thing that will pay big dividends for our Football Program in the long run. Roll Tide!!

guess I'm in a minority here  :lol2:

I don't hold Lane in very high regards
the way he acted after Cody blocked those kicks
the way he left , er , had to sneak out of Tennessee
his arrogant frigging mouth , telling a player he would pump gas

he may have did ok at USCw with Pete but when he had the reigns ?
he sucked , I mean come on , Coach O about ran the table after they
fired Lane at the airport and made him walk home . but Lane couldn't
win a game ?  really  ? Coach O ?

the O that Coach Nuss ran at Washington and Fresno St. was nothing
like what he ran at Alabama ...
why is that ?
two words ?  Nick Saban ?
what that tells me is CNS tells the OC what HE WANTS and
the OC runs it ... just saying ...

maybe Lane will do alright , he will need to prove himself to me first
before I jump on the Lane Train ...

I just hope to God he doesn't embarrass ALABAMA  ,
the college and the State , and keeps a low profile ...
Harvey Updyke or tea bagger  potential we don't need ...

ROLL TIDE !
