Title: Coach Mark Richt & Georgia Football
Post by: Marshal Dillon on November 02, 2014, 01:58:28 PM
Is there a more mysterious or schizophrenic program in the nation than Georgia? One week they look like a contender, the next they look awful. How can anyone explain the Florida/Georgia game of this weekend? This has been the history of UGA football the last 6-7 years. Consider all the advantages of the Georgia program: great facilities, large and rabid fan base, fantastic state football talent base (behind only Florida & Texas), financially strong athletic dept., 35,000 students, attractive state with a diverse geography like, swamps, lakes, mountains, long ocean coastline, forests, & more. Richt is not a bad coach but he seems inconsistent & just not able to get over the hump. The UGA defense has struggled for years adding to the overall problems. I just can't figure out this situation.

Yesterday, they got their little feelings hurt when UF scored on the fake FG. It completely changed momentum. The thing that really killed UGa was, play after play, they could not or would not get outside to to meet the runner. I thought that they would surely make adjustments at halftime to correct that. Wrong! UF kept running that play over and over with great success, and kicked Georgia's butt.

They always have the talent, but not the smarts to compete consistently. Most of it is coaching.

UGA is a big stage.

I don't think Richt can adjust to it -- still, after all these years.

I think this is part of the problem, it's like he has too many other diversions to completely focus on football. Plus, 2Stater made an outstanding point about yesterdays game. UF just kept running the same play and UGA never seemed to figure that out and UF basically abandoned the pass, but still UGA couldn't comprehend it. I don't get it.

Richt teams have always been inconsistent. Sky high one week and flat the next. I just hope he has them ready when the barn goes to Athens.

Florida had 418 yards rushing against UGA. There was no mystery about when they were going to run, it was every play. They couldn't use a 6-7 man line to slow them down?

They go to Kentucky this Saturday and they had better forget the Florida game, Kentucky plays a different brand of ball when they are at home.

That's the early game this Saturday (11 AM), followed by A&M at Boogers (2:30), and then we play late (7 PM).  It'll be a fun weekend.

BTW, a few 7-1 teams play too: Kansas State at TCU; Ohio State at Michigan State; Notre Dame at Arizona State.
