Title: ****OFFICIAL Halloween NO-GAME THREAD****
Post by: Chechem on October 31, 2013, 06:18:45 PM
No game worthy of our pick-'em contest.  I'm watching Houston pound South Florida.

Meanwhile, what were the best costume of the day?

Alternatively, what were the best costumes that came to your door tonight?

A guy at work came dressed as an Ole Miss Black Bear.  It was a full costume that I thought was a gorilla from the back.  He wasn't very popular with the Ole Miss crowd!

I saw a guy on campus at Catholic U. today dressed as a deer head mounted on a wall. I wish I could have snapped a shot of it.  :lol2:

Article in the Ole Miss newspaper today advising coeds to wear dresses that cover their bottoms appropriately:

http://thedmonline.com/consider-your-halloween-hemlines/

Quote
The past few home games, I’ve found myself sitting close to the Walk of Champions with my chair facing out from my tailgate to get a better people-watching viewpoint. Over and over again, I found myself saying,... the hemlines are non-existent! Apparently wearing a slip when something fits a little tight or is a little see-through is a thing of the past as well.  If gameday is this scandalous, I shudder to think what Halloween is going to be like.

Ladies, please cover up. It will save you from having to constantly pull your shirt down throughout the night. It will save you from unflattering photographs the next day. Bonus, you’ll be able to sit down with ease!

The deer's head (full rack and all) was on his head, and he had the mounting plaque around his neck. Pretty inventive, I thought.  :lol2:

Just had a cute little 3-year-old in a calf costume (no bag).

Funny!  And she squeaked, "Trick of treat", without being coaxed.

I've had around 15-20 trick & treaters. We live in big neighborhood, so it could be a long night. Captain America, angel, cowboy in covered wagon (small), ninja, alien, ballerina, and others.

Sounds fun.  We have a 5-acre lot, and many houses in our neighborhood are on large lots, so the houses are far apart.  Not many kids.

We just had an astronaut and an Ole Miss cheerleader.

I would guess over half the trick & treaters are NOT from the neighborhood. This is a regular problem every Halloween. Folks want to take their kids to large neighborhoods so the kids can easily t&t plus they feel very safe. Traffic in the neighborhood is horrendous because of this.

Just had 3 ballerinas.  They said they live in Abbeville (about 15 miles from here).  It used to bother me that kids from elsewhere come to our (wealthy) neighborhood, but at least it's safe here!  Our traffic is modest, so we don't have your problem.

BTW, we're not wealthy.  Our neighbors are!   :lol2: :lol2:

Houston (not very good) 21   South Florida (even worse) 10

This means 2 missed another Thursday game!

No, it's not on the list.  Just joking!!

We just had the first one since 2005, dressed as 'Men in Black". Emptied half the bag so I wouldn't consume too much of what was left.

Weather looming.

Kid's probably emptying your garage by now.
Good luck with the weather; lots of flooding in the county here.

Just give each kid a beer, and they'll go away happy.

I just had 3 adult girls, no costumes, with pillow cases for bags.  LF insists they're high school; look older to me.  Drove up in a car and ran across the yard to the door.

WTH?  What do ya do when adults come begging?  LF said, "they're just greedy".

Gotta watch the teenagers. About 15 years ago when we were living in Gulf Breeze, Mrs. 2 went to the door with the basket full of candy, and there were 3 boys about 15 yrs old. As soon as she opened the door, they grabbed the basket and pulled Mrs. 2 to the ground and then took off running. So did I. You would not believe the surprised faces on those kids when I ran them down. One of them said "sh**! You're fast for an old fart! Their parents were not amused.

BINGO!! I assume it's a Browning 9 mm. I have an array of guns, usually use a Beretta .380, a Ruger .38, and if they look extra nasty, a Beretta .40 cal.

Meanwhile, back to football:

South Florida is getting the shaft:
1. With Houston leading 28-23 and 5 min to play, USF threw a TD.  But called back on offensive interference call (announcers baffled).  Both players with hands on other.
2. Next play, USF QB sacked, and ball fumbled (although looked like whistle should have been blown by then).
3. First play for UH, they throw long and WR pushes off, but incomplete.  Flag thrown for offensive pass interference, but flag picked up.  Coaches and USF players all going  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: , so refs throw unsportsmanlike conduct flag on them.  UH set up now for points.

 :dunno:

Man, a B.A.R. was the baddest infantry weapon of WWII. Do you remember the Patty Hearst case in 1974? She was a rich kid, age 20, kidnapped by some terrorists called the SLA (Symbianese Liberation Army) and held for ransom. The LAPD found 4 members holed up in a house in LA. One guy had a BAR and held off 500 LAPD officers for hours and had several of them pinned down. Remember, back then officers carried .38's and maybe a shotgun. The LAPD fired so many rounds into the house they hit the ammo stockpile of the SLA and it burned the house down and the 4 terrorists burned up in the house. They were true fanatics.

I thought they burned 'em out on purpose, by using tear gas canisters.  The police thought Patty was inside too.  She wasn't.

I think the tear gas helped to ignite the ammo they had in the house.
