OK guys, it is going to be alright.  They whipped us fair and square.  There were a lot of mistakes made, but the biggest blame in my mind has to be on the play calling on offense.  We could have run the ball down their throats if we had tried to do so.  We win by 10 to 14 points with them caving in the 4th if we run the ball throughout the game.

We have the ball 1st and goal on the 6 yard line with the game on the line and about 4 minutes to go.  Let me give you a hint on what the play calling SHOULD have been:

1)  Run left behind Jesse
2)  Run right behind Jesse
3)  Run middle behind Jesse
4)  Run bootleg away from Jesse

-OR-

Pick your own 4 runs.  There is no way we don't get 6 yards on 4 runs against them.  Even after we messed up the whole game until that point, we still win with 4 runs.

But we did not run. We called three pass plays.  Sad

Yep, I went back and watched that series again.  Horrible play calling.  On that 4th down play they should have at least sent MW out in the flats on the opposite side.  He would have been wide open for an easy TD.  They should have taken a time out or two on that series and gotten the play call right.  1st and goal that late in the game, you have to punch it in.  No need to save your time outs, you have to push your chips to the center of the table and get the right plays called for that series.  If you score you won't need those time outs.

what is wrong with AJ? Don't mean to sound silly, but I really don't get it.

I think AJ may have actually been hurt in that game he sat out in the 4th quarter, but the coaching staff isn't going to reveal what it is during the season, and AJ is going to keep playing.  He hasn't been the same since then.

Whe you have the luxury of a QB with a gazillion completions with no (1) interceptions, you have to trust his judiciousness over the chance of a runner getting held up and stripped. HTH

I do not understand the "what is wrong with AJ" comment. He played well and kept us in the game IMO. He was 21 of 34 for 309 yds. He threw 2 picks but the first was not his fault. The ball hit the receiver right in his hands. The int at the goal line is a tough play. There is not much room to pass from the 2 yd line.

My complaint would be the OL. We are no where near the best OL in the country. We have good players but we are not playing well as a unit. AJ was running for his life most of the night. Our high powered running game gained 122 yds. The coaches must have thought we could not run it in with a 1st and goal on the 6 yd line. We called three pass plays. I love Barrett Jones but he got whipped all game.

I agree with CP in that AJ may have been playing hurt against LSU and TAMU. Nevertheless it was not his best game. What amazes me, and this happens in B-Ball as well, some blowhards think that all a coach has to do is yell at a player and they will magically start passing/shooting better.

AJ played fine, and was 2 yards short of having his very own statue.

Partially agree, partially disagree. Stats can be misleading. A lot of his completions were dink & dunk 2 yard passes. He missed wide open receivers on more than one occasion. On the long pass to Cooper, Cooper was WIDE OPEN but had to almost stop running since AJ underthrew the pass. If AJ hits him in stride, he scores a TD and we probably win. Throwing an interception on the goal line is unacceptable, no matter how difficult it is. That is worse than throwing 2 interceptions on the 50 yard line. Plus, he seemed to be rushing some throws, even when the pass rush was not bad. I do think the overwhelming problem is the pass blocking by the O-line. Western Kentucky exposed us on that with 6 or 7 sacks of AJ. Apparently, the coaches did not learn from that experience. This is the 2nd average to subpar game in a row for AJ. Something is wrong with AJ. Finally, Jones was owned all night. Play calling gets a D- from me (coaches fault).
