Title: The Freeze Out-ing: How It (Partly) Happened
Post by: McBaman on July 24, 2017, 04:44:17 PM
This is from ESPN so I'll guess it has some basis in fact.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/20145148/ole-miss-rebels-hugh-freeze-ouster-result-odd-pairing-houston-nutt-attorney-mississippi-state-bulldogs-writer

(Put this in a new thread so it wouldn't get lost.)

A very interesting read. Good stuff. This cracked me up:

Quote
As one SEC power broker puts it: "It makes Ohio State-Michigan and Auburn-Alabama look like Sunday school." Robertson puts it another way: "It's the two runt puppies in the SEC West fighting for the hind teat. When you finally get locked on that hind teat, you do whatever you have to do to stay there, even if the other guy has to starve."

The Ole Miss/Misses St. game will be incredible this year. I expect to see plenty of personal fouls, maybe even an injury to Lewis of MSU, and raw hate.

Steve Robertson didn't want to defame or berate Freeze.
Neither did Houston Nutt or his attorney.
Ole Miss did.  And they did.
And they did it for $$$$$$$.

It seems that EVERYONE was in on the cheating.

Quote
For more than a year and a half, the booster names in Ole Miss' two Notices of Allegations have been redacted and kept from public consumption.

Those names were revealed Friday when the university released its two Notice of Allegations and published all but two of the booster names.

Quote
There were 14 boosters involved included in the Notice of Allegations and they were tied to more than half of Ole Miss' 15 Level I violations. The football program itself faces 21 alleged violations.

Darel Thigpen, Rebel Rags and its owner Terry Warren, Walter Hughes, Chan Patel, Arya Keyes, Funkys and its owner Lee Harris, Michael Strojny, Cannon Motors and its owner Michael Joe Cannon were the boosters whose names were released Friday and tied to Level I violations.

AND MORE BAD NEWS (FOR OLE MISS).

Quote
Former Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt's attorney says the university is trying to postpone the release of Hugh Freeze's phone records by redacting personal information from the calls, which he says isn't permitted under state open-records laws.

In a letter sent to Ole Miss assistant general counsel Rob Jolly on Friday, attorney Thomas Mars accused the school of a "pattern of concealing information from the public by manufacturing bogus exemptions and illegal roadblocks that plainly violate the FOIA."

Quote
"From the very outset, the University has found all kinds of creative and illegitimate reasons to delay producing documents, redact documents without legal justification, etc.," Mars wrote to Jolly. "What's more, as every sports reporter who covers Ole Miss knows, the University has adopted the same 'delay and conceal at all costs' approach with every journalist who's sought information related to the pending NCAA investigation."

There must be explosive info in those calls & records.

The beat goes on.

Quote
Per Mark Schlabach of ESPN, "attorneys representing Ole Miss and its former coaches and administrators who have been accused of violating NCAA rules" have asked that two Mississippi State football players, Leo Lewis and Kobe Jones, be required to attend the hearing, which is likely to take place in either August or September.

The OM attorneys have been whitewashing sports stories for years.
Maybe all schools do it.  But it's so obvious at OM.  The press releases are delayed by days, and they're too polished.

I think even the NCAA can see through that. Freeze isn't clean by any stretch of the imagination, but the corruption is far more widespread than just him, it would appear.

Not really.  It'll be easy to package it into a tight batch, including the fired assistant coach, Freeze, and Nutt.  That should do it.

What about the boosters?

This is what I meant when I said everyone is in on it. Fourteen boosters, are you kidding me? They talked about the death penalty for Bama over 1 booster and 1 player. Plus, now it appears that the Ole Miss attorneys, the AD, and the President have been obstructing/slow walking the investigation of the NCAA and the Nutt lawsuit. If you read the Ole Miss response to the NCAA, you will almost puke. They talk about the high character & principles of Ole Miss and the Administration. They praise their high level of cooperation, their persistence in searching for the facts, and re-emphasize the core high principles & integrity of Ole Miss. They come across as if the NCAA should reward them for their high moral principles and transparency.

They really have to hammer Ole Miss hard or lose all credibility. Like I said, 14 boosters involved and several players paid, not to mention all the lies by Ole Miss.

More bad stuff about Freeze. Not sure what to think.

The deep dive into Freeze’s life has just begun — lawyers for Houston Nutt have requested records from a Freeze burner phone — and USA Today has found troubling allegations against Freeze dating back to his days as the head coach at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis.

Can credibility be a negative number?  The NCAA has had no credibility for years...

True. Plus, they seem hesitant to come down hard on UNC for their violations which went back at least 25 years to the present time. Same goes for Louisville basketball & Pitino and their ho house for recruiting. It will be interesting.

The NCAA can't arrest for crimes. Violating NCAA rules are administrative, not criminal.
