Tony Brown fell over a hurdle at track practice and reinjured his shoulder (from All-American game). He's wearing a black shirt in practice. "I'm not sure how much more track he'll do this spring." ...

Dang, I knew Eddie Jackson and Reuben Foster were injured, but I hadn't heard about Tony Brown.   Banging your head against the wall.

Neither had I but this might be a blessing in disguise because if he already had the shoulder injured I doubt he would have made it through fall practice without wearing the black jersey. maybe now, he will get it repaired and be ready for fall football.

"Blake Sims has had a really good spring and has taken some command," Saban said after the closed scrimmage Saturday. "Cooper Bateman has made a lot of improvement and done a great job. Alec (Morris) is still competing. So those three guys have sort of emerged as the three guys that look like they're the most ready to play. Nobody is disappointed in anybody else." ...

Any guesses at how many snaps Blake Sims will get against West Virginia on August 30th?

Injuries on defense:

The health issues have disproportionately hit the Alabama defense this spring. Though the offense is without receiver DeAndrew White, his toe injury occurred before the spring.

The most significant issue popped up Saturday.

Sophomore cornerback Eddie Jackson has a torn ACL, ESPN reported Sunday night, after going down in the scrimmage. The injury occurred in a non-contact situation, Saban said. Jackson had been working with the first team with a strong spring practice routine before the injury.

All three levels of the defense have been impacted.

Defensive lineman Darren Lake's pectoral muscle injury also occurred in the weight room just before practices began.

True freshman cornerback Tony Brown reinjured his shoulder jumping hurdles in track practice. Saban said he's been limited in practice since hurting himself last week. After enrolling early, the Texas native had been making moves in the secondary, working his way up the hypothetical depth chart.

A shoulder stinger has been troubling linebacker Reuben Foster all spring as he competes with Reggie Ragland for C.J. Mosley's old job at inside linebacker.

Sort of but not really. I wonder what his punishment is and I'm sure it will include a suspension of game(s). I say this in assuming it was his first offense with CNS.

I am not ready to rule Sims out at this point. They are wasting value time with him if he does not fit into the coaching staffs plans. I look forward to Coker coming in this summer and see how quick he can catch up. I don't think you can anoint him starting QB before he ever steps foot on campus.

See what kind of offense we run at the spring game.  If it favors a run-option QB, then Sims has a chance to start the first game.  If Sims runs a drop-back system, it's Coker!

From everything I have read our base offense is not changing. Kiffin will have some news things but not a total overhaul. Coker will come in this summer and get his chance to earn the job. I hope he is good enough to earn it but there are others on the team getting valuable practice time that want the QB too. May the best man win.

I am thrilled to hear the reports CNS is giving on our progress. If he (CNS) says someone is competing they must be but the Word Command to me means they are the leader and all else is following. JMHO! RTR!

MONDAY:

LB Reuben Foster sported a cowboy collar while he worked with the inside linebackers, but his contact was limited. Foster suffered a stinger at Saturday's scrimmage, and it's apparently a lingering condition.

CB Tony Brown went through drills and was wearing a normal jersey, but a brace of some sorts was noticeable on his left shoulder. Alabama coach Nick Saban indicated Saturday that Brown's been wearing a black, non-contact jersey at practice, but that's been happening once the media leaves.

Watched Alabama run through some of its nickel defense. Cyrus Jones and Bradley Sylve were the cornerbacks, Landon Collins and Geno Smith were the safeties, Jarrick Williams was at Star and Trey DePriest and Reggie Ragland were the linebackers...
