Title: Gus Malzahn’s New Coaching Gig
Post by: Marshal Dillon on February 15, 2021, 03:41:30 PM
He’s going to be head coach at National Champion UCF. Expect a further decline in their program. You have to read the reactions in this article. People think this is a huge win for UCF and they are getting a great coach.

Quote
UCF hired its ninth head football coach in program history on Monday, bringing in former Auburn program leader Gus Malzahn to take over.

The 55-year-old was fired from the SEC West powerhouse following a challenging 2020 season. The Tigers went 6-4 prior to his dismissal and found themselves shutout of the upper echelon of the conference once again.

Even with last year’s disappointment, Malzahn has developed a reputation as one of the steadiest coaches in the sport. Over nine years on the sidelines, including eight spent at Auburn, he racked up a 77-38 overall record. He also led the Tigers to an SEC championship in 2013, two division titles and six appearances in New Year’s Six bowl games over the last eight years.

More silliness about the Malzahn hire. They must be heavy drinkers in Orlando.

Quote
“I truly believe that this is a program of the future in college football,” Malzahn said. “The reason I believe that is the foundation has been built.”

Quote
“The goal is very simple: Win championships and get into the College Football Playoff,” he said.

Auburn fired Malzahn in December, paying a $21.5 million contract buyout to the coach, after the Tigers went 6-4 in 2020. The buyout had no mitigation clause and is not decreased by Malzahn taking another job.

Gus at UCF will have an easier, less physical schedule.  If he toughens up the team he might have an advantage.  If he runs his old, crazy HUNH offense, most (all?) of the teams on his schedule won't be prepared to defend against it.  He could win a lot of games and get into some kind of Bowl game most years.

But it's still UCF and not the SEC.  And he's still Gus.

BINGO!! Instead of playing UGA, Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, etc., he gets to play SMU, USF, UCONN, Temple, Louisville, Cincinnati, etc. He can go 10-2/11-1 and be a hero there instead of 8-4, 7-5 in the SEC. Plus, he’s already announced that he’s going to do the play calling, so his same exciting offense scoring 25 points a game will still be around.

Well, you can be sure that BO NIX won't follow him to UCF.  May go to USCe, but not UCF.

Gus is an upgrade from Heupel IMO. He won 9 games or more three times during his time at Auburn. He consistently won 8 games. His problem at Auburn was the big games with Bama, UGA and LSU. He will not have teams like that on his schedule at UCF. He will make some bone headed moves and lose a few games he shouldn't but overall I think he can get UCF competitive in whatever mid-major conference UCF is in.

He will improve in wins but only because of where he is coaching now. RTR!

And if his wife is unshackled there, LOOK OUT for the firestorm from the Florida media!
