Thanks for the pics, Chech. Man, your cell phone looks like it was run over by a steam roller.
Or stepped on by a moose...

Went looking for wolves this morning.  Found some MUCH closer (1/4 mile).  We watched 2 of them (Junction Pack) for 3 hours.

Howling!

Windy and rainy today (Monday), so I went to watch wolves again.  It was snowing when I reached high elevation at Dunraven Pass, and covered the road.  It snowed so hard I used low beams in the darkness, and I drove 25mph.  Got to Lamar Valley before daylight anyhow.  It rained, so I sat in the car with my spotting scope mounted on my car window.

Saw a total of 8 wolves in a pack.  They were just relaxing, milling around, and visiting with a bit of play.  I took pics, but they're still in the camera (long-distance shots; not exciting).

On the return I saw an elk bull.  Got his pic:

Nice! Hard to believe you ran into snow in August. Pretty cool (no pun intended).

Here are the wolves seen yesterday morning in Lamar Valley (1/2 mile away).  Only one is gray (far left); others are mottled black.

The previous day they attacked some bison, but were unable to kill any (the bison protect each other).  This day they just sat around and waited.  Six of the 8 adults are in this pic (right-most one is lying down).

Did Chech decide to move permanently while I was away?  I hope he's got a good spot to watch some elephants on Saturday.

LOL.
Yes, there are coyotes.  One of the fallacies is that coyotes and wolves can't co-exist.  I watched a coyote walk within 100 yards of 2 wolves last week.  Not that wolves tolerate coyotes, and they'd kill them when they can, but the 2 species live within the same habitats.  They eat different foods in general (coyotes eat mostly small critters; wolves biggies).  Both scavenge.

Fishing was excellent today.  I caught 13 trout (3 browns and 10 rainbows), plus 2 whitefish.  It was cold and breezy, but that's okay for trout.  At least the rain extinguished the wildfires.
