Baylor Football Disaster

I hate seeing this kind of stuff.

Towards the end of the Baylor Bears‘ 45-27 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones, quarterback Seth Russell injured his neck on a run. Following the game, head coach Art Briles was asked about the injury and he said he was unsure if Russell would be healthy enough to play in the Bears’ next game on November 5 against Kansas State.

Then this update:

Update on Baylor QB Seth Russell: X-rays and a CT scan revealed a fracture in one of the bones of his neck. Will see a specialist next week.

Wow, dangerous sounding stuff.

Peyton Manning went through something similar, probably more serious, had surgery, got released by the Colts, and then did well with the Broncos. 

But this might limit, or eliminate, Russell's ability to play this year.

Well guys I will certainly be praying for this young man. I dearly hate to see a a young man get hurt. Prayers in the name of Jesus for him. RTR!

This sounds like a serious, frightening injury.  Can't imagine this guy playing anytime soon.  Prayers indeed.

But sounds like a near 'tragedy'.

Baylor was up 35-20 with 6 minutes left.  It was a QB read option, QB kept the football, ducked his head into defender's helmet.

We will see if Baylor's offense really is plug and play.

Disaster for the QB's well-being & the team. Near tragedy probably is a better description considering the type of injury. I don't see him playing football, again. With QB's running so much, I'm surprised we don't see more of this.

Depends on the severity of the fracture.  Watching the play, and considering his age and health, I doubt it is a career-ending injury.  The fracture will heal itself eventually.  Another option is that doctors inject a cement like substance into the fracture to harden it.

I think he'll be back, but he is probably out for the season.

I had a friend hit by a car last year and had two fractured vertebrae.  The doctor offered to inject the cement, but he declined, opting for self-heal.  He is a lot older than this QB, but was back to his usual self (hiking, skiing, etc) pretty quickly.
