Five-Run Sixth Inning Proves Costly in 5-2 Loss to Oklahoma

Quote
Alabama held the early 2-0 lead over Oklahoma in Friday's opener at the NCAA Super Regional before the Sooners broke up a no-hit bid with a five-run sixth inning to earn a 5-2 comeback victory over the Crimson Tide.

Alabama (45-13) took the early two-run lead off a first-inning RBI single by Jadyn Spencer and a third inning solo homer by Haylie McCleney, making McCleney the first Tide player since Amanda Locke in 2012 to hit a home run in four straight games. All five of McCleney's hits so far in the NCAA Tournament have been home runs. After falling behind, the Tide would bring the potential game-winning run to the plate but a strikeout ended the potential walk-off rally.

Not sure why Bama didn't pull Osario sooner in the 6th inning.

Bama wins Game Two 2-0 to force Game Three. Osirio pitched a 1 hit shut out for the win.  Spencer hit a two run HR and that was the Difference in the game. Game Three coming up on ESPN2 at 7:00.

Bama's Marisa Runyon hits a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 6th to take a 5-3 lead.

We are already seeded against Michigan in the first game. Tough matchup. They beat us twice early in the year in T-Town. Good news is, we are not the same team as we were then. I think we have as good a chance as any to win it all. So far, 3 SEC teams have made it into the WS. It ought to be a good one.

First Oklahoma, then Michigan.  Tough Draw.  Michigan will be another tough test for the Tide.

So far, Bama, Michigan, TN, Auburn, Oregon have made it.

Florida beat Kentucky, LSU beat Arizona, and UCLA beat Missouri.  Still games left to play in these series.

A good possibility that 5 of the 8 teams in the WS will be from the SEC, with a minimum of 4, since UF and Ky are playing each other. I think Bama had the toughest draw of any team in the super regionals.

I'm reading this under the palm trees on a windy night.  It's the same weather we had on this island the night Bama beat Notre Dame for the NC!  Cool.

I don't typically watch any softball until we get to this point in the year.  This morning (last night for ya'll) was probably the most excited I've ever been for softball.  I hope the ladies are able to get back to the championship series this year, and of course finish the job like 2012.

Runyon has had a tough post season until her last at bat. She was dropped in the lineup yesterday from the #4 clean up spot to #7. She was pulled for a pinch hitter due to her slump two innings earlier. She make up for it with one swing of the bat.

We now has 79 RBI's on the year and that ties an Alabama record.

They don't call her Marisa "Home" Runyon for nothing.

That was an exciting game if you like a pitcher's dual.  Both starting pitchers are freshmen and they are both really good.  Oklahoma will be tough to beat for the next three years.  I was really glad to see Bama get both wins yesterday.  Congratulations to Oklahoma for making it as far as they did. Congrats too to Ms. Chamberlain for hitting an NCAA record 95 home runs in her career.  Sad to see that career end at the Super Regionals though.  I would rather seen Oklahoma play and beat either UT or Awbren so her career would have just a little more time to push that record a bit higher... She is a classy softballer IMO...   #+ #+ #+ #+

Both freshman pitchers were awesome. The Paige girl from Oklahoma pitched every inning of all three games. Osorio pitched all three games as well with just a little help from Littlejohn. Both of them threw about 300 pitches in 2 days.

I am not sure why Oklahoma was the 11 seed. They have a very good team with good pitching and power hitters. We got a tough draw and so did Oklahoma. They had only lost 7 games before the Super Regional.

Title: Go-Ahead Grand Slam Punches Softball's 10th Ticket to College World Series

Facing a one-game deficit in a best-of-three series against Oklahoma, Alabama won game two, 2-0, to force a deciding game three which the Tide won 5-3 courtesy of a sixth-inning grand slam by Marisa Runyon. The win secures Alabama's 10th trip to the Women's College World Series, which begins Thursday, May 28 in Oklahoma City.

Alabama has now made it to the Women's College World Series in four of the last five years, including a national title in 2012 and a runner-up finish in 2014. This is just the 14th time in the history of the Super Regional round that a team has come back from a game one loss to win games two and three. Alabama accomplished this feat previously in 2011, falling in game one to Stanford before rebounding with wins in games two and three.

Barring a monumental comeback by Arizona, LSU should be the 5th SEC team to make the WCWS. 4 of the teams play against each other in the first game. Bama is the exception, going up against Michigan.

LSU is in. They will play the barn and UF will play UT in the first game of the WCWS. The remaining game will be UCLA vs Oregon.

This is a really good field of teams in this year's WCWS.  I will not be surprised if every team has a loss by the time they reach the final series.  Hopefully Bama will once again be one of the final teams...

It doesn't get any better than betting a top 10 team to earn your way to Oklahoma City. It won't get any easier next Thursday, I think Michigan is the team to beat for the NC. They are solid in every position as well with the bats and their coach. Hopefully Bama found some new energy against Oklahoma that can level out the playing field some with Michigan and get that much needed first win. Kudos to the team. #+
