Most CEO's don't have language that specific in their contracts, pertaining to conduct. Professional athletes do, however, but are rarely held to it, until now.

I'm glad that the NFL is being made to toe the line on this. This does not follow along with all the other PC crap that's being shoved down our throats, it's the right thing to do. There is no place for domestic violence, anywhere, period!

Goodell wanted to take it easy on Ray Rice, presumably, because Rice's wife asked him to. I have news for Mrs. Rice, Ray will do it again. Bet on it! I've been in law enforcement and seen cases of it outside of law enforcement, that hit much closer to home. The abusers don't stop, and the women, for the most part, keep forgiving them or are just too afraid to turn them in or are equally afraid to prosecute them.

Zero tolerance is the ONLY acceptable policy concerning domestic abuse.

Now on to Adrian Peterson. Apparently he is being charged with child endangerment for taking a switch to his child. Shoot, every parent in history, up until the last 20 years would be in jail, if that had always been the law. They would have put mine under the jail. They made me go out and get the switch they were going to use on me.

The major problem with our society today is the lack of corporal punishment administered by parents. Heck, lets just give them all a participation trophy for acting up!

I'm going to stop now before I go all Mad Max up in here.

I understand zero tolerance, but do we ruin someone's life because of it? I'm not talking about serious bodily injury or death, but something like why Rice did. We as a society believe in 2nd chances and our Christian ethic teaches the same through forgiveness. How about a 10-12 game suspension and a 2nd time he is banned for life? Just wondering.

MD, I'm a Christian and should believe that way, but I've seen too much to accept that. That's why I asked Preacher to pray for me yesterday morning. I can't forgive the perpetrators of 911 either. I'll leave that up to the Lord for both groups. I love most people, but there is some hate that's reserved for certain people, that I can't shake.

What do you think about all this stuff guys? I am interested in those of you who have kids playing football, want to play football, or who played football through high school and maybe into college. Also, what about these brain problems associated with football, what's going to happen to the sport and how many more changes can they make? Just wondering.

 Dog

My son begs me to play, but so far I have not let him.  I may let him when he gets in high school, but I am concerned that all the kids that are playing now will be way ahead of him.  It is a dilemma that I have thought about quite a bit.  Right now I am leaning toward getting him involved in a 7 on 7 or flag football league so he can learn the basics of the game without fear of serious injury.  But there aren't any such leagues around here because all the kids are playing tackle football.

HS seems late to be getting started. You're right, the other kids will have been playing for years.  When you play young, the other kids aren't too big either, and I think the risk of injury isn't too bad.  As kids get bigger, though, the hits get harder, risk of injury increases.  I started playing football at 7 years old.  By the time I reached HS age, I had had one concussion game where I kept playing (we didn't know any better), and the hits kept getting harder. After the concussion, and having a friend carried off the field in a stretcher to the hospital, I decided football was a game and not a career for me, and that was my last season.

Peterson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, said that the charge involved Peterson's using a "switch" to spank his son.

"Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son," said Hardin's statement. "He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. ...

A "switch", right?  As in 'a small, thin twig from a tree'.

That's a crime??  I must be missing something.  Hell, when I was a kid they made me go cut my own switch before "abusing" me with it.

To borrow from MD, BINGO! That is why I am in zero hurry to forget what Ray has done. I worry about this, because even though they both say it had never happened before, there was alcohol involved, whatever, I can't help but wondering if that is actually true. I know alcohol can impair judgement, but effect it to the point that you beat the crap out of your fiancee, something you claim "you never have done before"? That I am not sure of.

As for Adrian Peterson, unless he was using a branch the size of a baseball bat and left gaping wounds on his child, this is not abuse. If it was both, my grandparents and parents would have been in prison years ago.

I have to say 2STATER that I partly agree with you. I do however know that Jesus in the WORD teaches us that we are not to hate, BUT there is a point for HATE. The Bible teaches us to HATE the SIN but not the person even in the case of 9/11. JESUS hated because he hated the sin but not the person. There is a scripture I am going to try to find if I can this morning.

I think this is why he was indicted:

Quote
The Houston station, citing law enforcement sources, said Peterson told police that the incident -- he referred to it as a "whooping" -- occurred in Spring, Texas, in May as punishment for his son pushing another one of Peterson's children. The boy suffered cuts and bruises to areas including his back, buttocks, ankles and legs.

This happened in Texas, not a loony liberal state, so some type of injury may have occurred.

I saw a pic on another forum, that was supposedly AP's kid. If so, he should be arrested.  Sad

Then I change my perspective. There is a way of using a switch without causing those kind of injuries.
