Title: Total Chaos
Post by: crtuneman on November 19, 2011, 11:26:04 PM
This has been the craziest season I have ever seen. Now there are only 4 1-loss teams left. Bama, Okie St, Arky, and Va Tech. I think Okie ST has eliminated themselves by losing to Iowa St, so the Okie-Okie St game is irrelevant. Va Tech is not a legitimate champ contender. So if Bama takes care of business against Auburn then they should be in the BCS game regardless of what happens with Arky and LSU. I just hope we don't get bit by the upset bug next week. What a crazy ending to the season. I would not be at all surprised to see LSU lose to Arky next week. Would they jump Bama and go to the SEC title game? Would Bama end up in the BCS title game against Arky? So many questions, so few answers. Roll Tide!

If Arkansas beats LSU, we go to Atlanta, even if they jump us.  The only thing that will matter is where Arkansas finishes in the BCS relative to LSU.  If they are in front of LSU, which they most certainly would be, then it will come down to the head to head game between Alabama and Arkansas, regardless of who is #1 and who is #2.  That goes to us of course.

Alrighty, here visiting my Bama crazy sisters and we're going nuts tonight...BUT...

There will always be the idiot talking heads who are going to pull Houston out of their behind just to get screen time.  Book it.  I think it would be a travesty given their crappy schedule and crappier conference...but the media loves the underdog (see Boise State!).

PS, I saw my brother in law who pulled the "9 to 6" joke on me (hardy freaking har) and I just said "so how's Mississippi State goin' for ya???"  Honestly...don't talk smack when your team is just praying they get a bowl bid.

So is it to Bama's advantage to play in the SECCG or go straight to the NCG?

Today, Bama will be #2, behind LSU and ahead of #3 Arkansas. If LSU wins out--beats Arkansas-- they will represent the SECW in the SECCG. If they beat, I guess UGA in the SECCG, then it should be BAMA vs. LSU in the NCG.

This leaves Bama with about a 6 week layoff. 14-20 days of practice (or how many is allotted). So does this long being idle hurt worse than the risk of guys getting hurt in the SECCG?  Just as a peripheral, playing in the SECCG could help BATR in his run for the Heisman, which is a source of pride to all of us, including the players. I say let LSU take the risk ( no one really has a choice), chance peaking too early, and lose the resting time. I guess I'll pull for LSU over Arky unless y'all can make the case to the contrary. This includes pulling for a "Heisman Day" for BATR against the barn (400 yds rushing, 5 TDS).

Someone may say, "Auburn may beat us". Don't be that guy. :(

Harris Poll ballot: SEC 1-2-3, then chaos
Posted by George Schroeder

After three of the BCS top five lost this weekend, the top three on my ballot was easy. Just take the SEC West standings and fill it in.

After that? Crazy. Took forever to fill out.

We're almost certainly headed for an all-SEC BCS Championship game, and a rematch of some sort.

Here's the ballot:

1. LSU

2. Alabama

3. Arkansas

4. Stanford

5. Virginia Tech

6. Houston

7. Oklahoma State

8. Boise State

9. Oregon

10. Oklahoma

11. Kansas State

12. Michigan State

13. Clemson

14. Wisconsin

15. Georgia

16. Michigan

17. Penn State

18. South Carolina

19. Baylor

20. TCU

21. West Virginia

22. Virginia

23. Notre Dame

24. Nebraska

25. Auburn

I signed up a couple of weeks ago to participate in Harris polls. They have all kinds of polls,--not just football. They offer coupons or free fruit bars (they looked pretty good) to lure you in. You have to be a member for some time, before you work your way up to the football poll (just a guess) but there are your qualifications. That's right--best I can tell, Grandma, whom has never watched a entire football game, is elligible to decide who may play for the BCS National Championship.

So is it to Bama's advantage to play in the SECCG or go straight to the NCG?

That's a tough question. It would be nice to win the SEC CG. Let's face it UGA will not beat any of the top 3 in the West. If LSU wins out everyone should agree the two best teams will play for the championship. That I like. But once we beat LSU the talk will begin that we did not win our conference. It is a long layoff either way. I say let LSU win and we go to the BCS CG as # 2. Beat LSU and the crystal ball is ours.

It is only chaos is you are on the outside looking in. We beat a bad barn team next week and BCS CG here we come.

ESPN Sportscenter chic says people don't like the idea of a rematch-- it leaves a sour taste in their mouth. Firetruck her and them. The national championship is suppose to bring together the two best teams in the country. Not only has LSU and Bama proved their superiority all season long-- they showed Nov 5, on the biggest stage-- that both teams can hold up to the hype. The game was so close that many are not convinced the best team won. They shouldn't embarass themselves by trying to argue OU, Va. Tech, or maybe Stanford. They are not in the same football universe and should have enough self respect to prove it on the field (next year), and not gang up with public opinion.

I guess they have to talk about something. They should be spending their time talking about the LSU - Arkansas game. At this point we have a much easier road to the BCS CG than LSU does. Ok St, VA Tech and Standord would be fighting Miss ST and the barn for 4th place if they were in the SEC West.

These teams can't play with Miss St. and would have trouble with Vandy. Your are correct, sir.

I see all of these sports shows just screaming about all the chaos in the race for the National Championship. The only chaos is the fact that all of these so called analyst were doing their best to beat back the SEC from having any chance for the BCSNCG this year, but they have no other option but to agree now that the SEC is by far the best conference in college football.

If the voting in the polls had been what it should have been up to this point in the season, some of the loses yesterday wouldn't have shocked so many and wouldn't have made some of the other folks so happy. Media bias creates all of this so called mess because the writers/ analysts like to have the leverage to make things happen "their" way, but it didn't happen this year like it has in the past years. What a wonderful day for all of us racially biased, funny talking, cheaters, and whatever the media can find to call all of us no good Southerners.

Go SEC and Roll Tide!!!!

OK so here's  my scenario: LSU loses to Arky and Bama crushes the boogs. Bama goes to the SEC title game and beats Ga. Would they play Arky or LSU for the natl title? Let's assume that Stanford loses to ND (long shot) and Okie ST loses to Okie (bank it). That would really make a mess. LOL

Bama would play Arkansas in that scenario, by the way.  In order for Bama to even go to Atlanta, that would require Arkansas to finish ahead of LSU in the BCS.

The Arkansas-LSU game really is a play in game.  Whoever wins that game will be in, assuming they don't lose to UGA.  Bama is in as long as they beat Auburn by at least 1 point (assuming they don't play UGA and lose).

You are so right, J. I know that if Bama beats Auburn we are in the BCS title game, but I really want to win an SEC title. Bama's goal every year is to win the SEC, and I still think that should be our goal. Of course, that scenario is out of our hands, but I would like to see that happen rather than just wait for the BCS title game.
