8 Consecutive seasons Alabama has reached No. 1 in The Associated Press poll. Alabama's streak is the longest since the AP poll started in 1936. The Crimson Tide received its only No. 1 ranking of the 2015 season in the final poll after beating Clemson 45-40 in the College Football Playoff title game on Jan. 11. That broke the record of seven consecutive seasons with at least one No. 1 ranking set by Miami (Fla.). The Hurricanes were ranked No. 1 at some point every season from 1986 through 1992. This was the second time during Alabama's streak that the Tide's only appearance at No. 1 was the final poll. The Tide also did that in 2011.

37 Years since a team played a tougher schedule than Alabama did in 2015, according to NCAA rankings. The Crimson Tide's NCAA FBS opponents compiled a 114-47 record in games against other FBS teams  (not counting the outcome against Alabama) for a .708 winning percentage. A team hasn't faced a schedule with a better winning percentage in the NCAA rankings since 1978, when Notre Dame's opponents compiled a .709 winning percentage. The Fighting Irish had an 8-3 record that season.

Good stats.  It's always nice to be #1 in the final poll.  I don't think Miami did that as many times.

10 Times Alabama has finished No. 1 in the final AP poll of the season, more than any other team. The Crimson Tide finished No. 1 in 1961, 1964, 1965, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015. The AP poll started in 1936.

After the bowl games, there is no talk about the SEC being down or overrated.  Instead, the SEC is back to its rightful place as the dominant conference.

There was some talk yesterday about the PAC12 maybe slipping.  You know, the PAC12, that conference at the beginning of the season was being hyped as maybe as good, or better, than the SEC from top to bottom.

My personal opinion is that the PAC12 was never as good as hyped, and also it isn't as bad as they are now presented.  Stanford blew out Big10 darling Iowa, and the PAC12 did finish with the second best bowl record, albeit playing easier opponents than some other conferences.  The overrated conference this year was clearly the Big10, which put 4 teams in the top 12 despite playing soft schedules, and their top two teams getting blown out in their respective BCS Bowls.

All of this, plus the fact that everyone had written Bama off after the Ole Miss loss, makes this Natty a very special one. It was an uphill battle all the way.

Great article.

I hope Danny Kanell gets a chance to read this and then sticks it in his craw.
