If it is true, remember he is suppose to be innocent until proven guilty, then pull the offer and give it to someone else.

Dump him and dump him now. Don't need even a whiff of impropriety.

Also keep in mind that this could be consensual.  The rape could be due to age (if he's over 18 - she's under 16); the sodomy means "other than vaginal intercourse" - oral?.

I'll wait, but it looks bad for him.

It is an underage situation (and yes, oral is most likely).

This is unfortunate for him. It sounds like it was consentual and maybe a Momma got mad. I hope it works out. I would wait to pull the offer, until all of it plays out.

I'm not exactly sure that an 18 year old guy needs to be messing around with a 15 year old girl, but that should be more of a parental issue than a legal issue, IMO.

Refer him to Auburn or Penn State.

I understand the law and the needs for them and I  am not defending the young man.  However, some of these 15 year olds are going on 20 and they are the instigators in some situations.

It is definitely a different situation if it was only an age thing.  That is not at all what I had in mind when I saw the charges.

And we have some 18 year olds going on 12 and they do stupid things. ;)

I don't know the circumstances and it may be bad enough to where Bama needs to forget about this kid, but I do know at that age, many of us did a lot of thinking with the little head. If he's 17 and she's 15 or 16 and the aggressor, it's not that easy to turn off the testosterone. Of course it's been a long time since I was 17, I could be wrong.

The police have pretty much said that it is an underage situation and has nothing to do with forced rape.  It is also being said that her parents plan to drop the charges.

Looks like I may have been premature with my harsh comment previously.  :-[

I do hope this young man learns a valuable lesson because of this. 

If the situation is what I think it is, then I feel sorry that he had to go through this public humiliation.

If it's what Chech said it was, he'll be a local folk hero to his brahs at SF. I'm playing golf there tomorrow, I'll try to get the "skinny" on the situation.  8)

Last night, when it first broke, I searched for more info to confirm it.  Every recruiting service, every sports network, and all of the regional newspapers had his arrest photo plastered with the story.  
I admit, when I heard the charges I envisioned a forced rape.  I don't know the legal system, but this sure seems like a pair of criminal charges that present a twisted version of the truth.

Nothing wrong with your comments. We have to be so careful nowadays and not ignore problems. I reference Penn State as an example. Plus, just because the parents changed their minds about charges does not mean the kid is not messing with an underage girl. That is still a major conern of mine.

I know, it's a major red flag.  But regardless of what team was recruiting him, I feel that he was likely wronged. 
Who among us didn't date a girl 2 years younger during those high-school years?  And who among us ... (you know).
There were mistakes made.  But if the crime was minor, he doesn't deserve major punishment (which he's already received publicly).

I don't think "dating" an underage girl is a crime. The problem is having relations with an underage girl. Gigantic difference.
