Title: BR: How Good a Shot Does Alabama Have with Barry Sanders Jr.?
Post by: pmull on April 08, 2011, 08:43:55 AM
Barry Sanders Jr. is this next class' great white whale as far as running backs go. Everybody wants him, and Sanders seems to be enjoying the attention that being the No. 1 anything brings with it.

So is Sanders just toying with Alabama, or do they really have a good shot?

After reading every interview Sanders has made on the subject, he has four favorites, and Alabama is one of them. Also on the list is Oklahoma State, his father's old school, UCLA and Florida State. So obviously, distance from home has nothing to do with it. Presently he lives just outside Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

And this fall, he was spotted at a Texas game sporting a Texas cap, but insisted that it was just hot and he needed a cap.

He does however have some interest in Texas, but he rarely mentions them.

In the interviews, it's important to listen to what his father says as well, as Barry Sr. has been glowing in his praise of the program at Alabama, especially the way Coach Nick Saban runs the program.

"What's not to like about Alabama?" Barry Sr. said in one interview. "Coach Saban runs a first-class program and the facilities and atmosphere is wonderful. We've been very impressed with what we've seen."

After the recent Duron Carter commitment, I think we will have a great shot with the younger Barry Sanders (he's not a junior, different middle name).  My guess is the elder Sanders will probably talk with Cris Carter and see that Alabama is the best place to go to develop his son's talents in preparation for the league.

I think we have a good shot of getting him. If it comes down to wanting to play in a top program, capable of winning championships and preparing players for the NFL I feel we will be his choice. My concern is his roots may be too deep at Ok ST.

If his dad is not that dead set on Okla. St. then we have as good as chance as anybody or maybe more. RTR!
