I dont know what exactly is in those balls, but typically it is some sort of highly explosive gas.

Has there ever been an earthquake anywhere that has been measured 8.9 or bigger? That is by far the most powerful quake I've ever heard of. And yes 32 deaths is a MOST optimistic report.

But this is definitely one of the strongest ever recorded.

I remember working up at Marshall space flight near their hydrogen balls.  They were like, "if one of those goes up, you'll never know it".

Lets clarify that records began around 1800 and that this is not the end of the world.
