I went back and watched the rest of that video.  Paraphrasing:

"I am a student journalist and I have the right to stand here and document this event."

"Well you have to back up out of our way because we have the right to walk forward."

The 1st amendment does give the journalist the right to be there, of course.  But I'm not sure what amendment gives you the right to walk forward.

Huh?

All I can say is our government has encouraged people to disrespect the law officers of our country and it is only going to get worse, much worse.

I am afraid you are right.  Can you imagine what this country will look like when these guys are running things?

I must acknowledge the journalism students though.  They may have been the only ones at the scene that a) acted with respect and b) knew what they were talking about.

I said the same thing back in the mid sixties and seventies when riots and protests involved burning the American flag.

Boy, this thread sank fast.

Can we complain about the long-haired hippies too?

Here's one in an Alabama jersey at a Pop Festival.  Looks like that Chech guy!

I haven't commented on this story yet (other than pointing out that I am glad the students are white) because there are still a lot of missing details.  For example, I am hearing that the police were called out to the scene at 3:18 AM the night after the LSU game because of a noise complaint, but the noise was in the apartment ABOVE the students in the video.  I am also hearing that the officer just opened the door and walked into the apartment while the kids were in a back room watching a movie.

I have no idea if either of those points are true, but if they are it may change my perspective on what happened.  I suspect that neither of those points are accurate and are probably just B.S. put out by the students and their friends, but I am taking a wait and see approach at this point.

I will say this though, it is pretty clear that those kids are spoiled brats that don't respect authority.  Telling the officer that you are respecting his authority then proceeding to debate him as to whether or not he has the authority to be there is NOT respecting his authority.  You will never win arguing with a police officer, even if you think the officer is clearly wrong.  So the best thing to do is politely obey any reasonable request, including being arrested, then let your attorney prosecute the case against the police if they screwed up.  Once the officer has decided to arrest you, you ARE going to jail.  Do you want to add resisting arrest onto the list of charges?

The kids thought they were having a debate and winning with their superior intellect.  The officer was just letting them run their mouths while waiting for his buddies to show up.

We have raised a whole generation that believes that they are entitled and can do whatever they want without consequences.  In the span of less than 100 years we have gone from the Greatest Generation to the Look At Me Millennials.

I just gave you an e-cred for being spot on. Here is further evidence. The first one is on the Mizzou campus. The 2nd and 3rd one at Yale.

2, I watched a couple of minutes of that first video and that is all I could stand.  It just makes me want to cry.  Who raised these people?  No one, I'm guessing.  So we are left with a generation of "Look at Me Millennials", raised by twitter and facebook, mentored by instagram and snapchat.  I suppose there are one or two that occasionally have an independent thought.  The rest are just lemmings following the ping from the echo chamber.

They think when they eat a hamburger it is an event worthy of photographing and sharing with the world.  "Hey, look at me, I just ate at [fill in the blank with hip restaurant du jour].  But if they protest on public property, the press is not allowed to be there and take pictures.

If they are going to debate the constitution, they should read it and understand it first.  The journalist has just as much of a right to be there as they do.  Maybe someone should post the text of the constitution on facebook.  But it would have to be someone cool or they still won't read it.

And this same group was begging the media to cover this. These "entitled" kids are going to be running this country one day. A very sad day that will be.

Nope, never me.  Actually we were eating breakfast (out of a can).
'Lady Stardust' was eating peanuts.

That's how it looked to me.  Surprised to hear a police chief admit fault.

If you watch the body cam footage from the officer it is clear that he handled this wrong.  When I saw the first videos from the students I assumed that they started somewhere well after the initial contact, and you didn't really know what preceded.  But that is not the case.  The officer basically knocked on the door, and when the kid answered he ordered him to come outside.  The kid politely declined, then the officer tried to grab him and drag him outside.  No excuse for that.

Having said that though, his friend did appear to grab back at the officer's arm in response.  That is a definite no-no.  He should have probably been arrested for that, but there was no need to taze him and beat him with a night stick.

I have no idea what the girl did, other than being annoying.  But if that is a crime I know a whole bunch of people that need to go to jail.

Also, Officer "I don't give a s--t" needs to be fired.  He wasn't even on the scene until everything was over.  I could cut him some slack if he had just been involved in a volatile incident were maybe he felt threatened or something, but that was not the case at all.  He arrived on scene with that bad attitude.
