61  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Kira Lewis Jr. Leads Alabama Over Murray St 78-72 on: November 27, 2018, 03:27:27 PM
It was a sloppy game but they found a way to win, a big improvement for Bama basketball. Their bad ball handling was what kept the game close but the positive was they made their free throws to seal the win. It wasn't long ago they were doomed if the game depended on their free throw shooting.

Donta Hall? He seems to be really out of sync with the style and pace of play right now but that can change and hopefully it will and soon.

Riley Norris is suited up again and hopefully we will see him on the floor again real soon.

Trevor Releford was at the game last night, he is still playing European ball.

So where do we send our contributions to the "Keep Malzahn" campaign?

To the REC.  Wink

63  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Alabama Men's Basketball Dominates in Exhibition Win Over Montevallo, 82-40 on: November 02, 2018, 07:54:09 PM
Thanks, J. Looks like a work in progress for sure.

It is but this might be just where Coach AJ wants them right now because everybody that is healthy is getting some good minutes on the floor.
64  Around Campus / The Quad / Alabama Men's Basketball Dominates in Exhibition Win Over Montevallo, 82-40 on: November 02, 2018, 07:38:44 PM
This is a few days old, sorry I didn't get it on the forum sooner.

Bama actually had a scrimmage game against Jacksonville State a few days earlier that was closed to the public and what I heard from this wasn't what any of us wanted to hear. The team lost bad to this and from what little that i heard from Coach AJ he was not a happy camper.

After hearing all the bad news from the previous scrimmage with Jacksonville State I was very skeptical about what I might see against Montevallo. I wasn't looking for a 100+ score nor a big blowout, I was looking for team play and just how would they react after their previous embarrassment. I got what I was looking for.

I'll say again that there is some good talent on this team and it showed some against the Montevallo team. There was no one man show but some good ball movement and execution on offense and some stingy defensive play. They made some turnovers but they were mostly hustling mistakes, something that should correct itself as the season goes. I will say though, there is work to be done at the free throw line. The outside shooting isn't where we all would like it to be but the team aggression for loose balls/rebounds looks promising. It's early in the year and they look like and early in the year team right now but I think there are better days ahead for the team. Hopefully that embarrassment at Jacksonville State will be the spark that lights their fire in the games ahead.

Their next game is against Southern University Tuesday 11/6/18 7:00pm

65  Around Campus / The Quad / Bama Basketball and Softball 2019 on: October 27, 2018, 09:54:20 AM
I had a chance to watch both basketball and softball this past week and thought I would share an early opinion with everyone.

I left the basketball practice feeling like there might be a good chance of some success this season. The first thing I noticed was the conditioning and enthusiasm of the players. It was very noticeable of the weight loss for some of the big boys especially as they were working on their fast breaks, more speed and agility. Reese is one that I think we need to keep our eye on this year, he's leaner, seems to be more aggressive and still has his outside shot. Riley Norris looked like Riley Norris of the past, scrambling for rebounds and put backs and seemed not to fear pulling up and taking his shot. There was one part of their game that is still lacking some, free throws.

It is early in the year and they should look like there is work to be done but I left thinking this team has more energy and player skills than they had last year. We lost Mr Basketball from last year but that may be a big plus for this team, more team effort and not a one man show.
I also had a chance to see the softball team and they did look different. Alexis Osorio is not here any more and there are more new players on the team than I have ever seen. The first thing I noticed was there is 5 pitchers now on the team but none looked like Osorio did. I also did not see a player that stood out as the leader of the team as no one was returning from last years team to fill that role and no one seems to have stepped up to be that.

Defensively I wasn't impressed as graduation took out some of the key players and no one was that impressive but again, it is early for the players and there is a good time frame ahead for them to work on their mechanics. I did seem some good at bats from some so maybe our run production will be better this year to make up for their lack of experience. I've got my fingers crossed.

Speaking of hell, did you see the post about Urban Meyer going to Arbun.  Plans to change his name to RURAL MEYER?

I only caught the second half, but what a fun game to watch. Both QBs played pretty well. Taulia has better speed than I thought. I think he's faster than Tua, but at this point, a little less accurate. Paul Tyson has a good arm, as well. Can't wait to see them at Bama.........after Tua and Jalen move on, of course.

I agree with everyone, do they not teach defense anymore? Both QBs had their moments but they both have a lot of work to do to play the college level. I really hate to see the media play up Tia so much, he's a long ways from being a Tua. I also agree that that he looks more like Hurts than he does his brother.

Indeed, 5-0 and cruising.

My face feels like a balloon this morning. I have an abscessed tooth. Thank Heavens I am a member of MDLive and was able to get some antibiotics yesterday. The pain is starting to subside, but the swelling is still there. Will be calling the dentist first thing in the morning. Why do these things always happen on the weekend?

Hate to hear about the tooth, I had one of those years ago but you never forget about it, lots of pain. We had fun at the game yesterday but was disappointed with the student turnout, lots of empty seats. Mrs. J and I are headed to Arkansas next weekend for the game, our first trip there, looking forward to the game and spending some time with the granddaughters.

Whatever happened to 14-7 scores?

TUA happened.

Yep and thank goodness, our defense has got a lot of improving to do.

Game Day!!!

 Jumping Jumping Jumping

Yes it is and there is a big change for entering the stadium as metal detectors will be in force. If you are attending today be sure and empty your pockets and bags of anything that can't pass the test because your only choices will be to leave the objects in an unprotected area at the stadium or take it back to your car.

I got my letter from Tide Pride yesterday concerning the changes to be made to Bryant Denny and I wasn't too surprised. There will be a significant increase in my Tide Pride membership and relocation of my seats on the West side of the stadium. There will also be a one time transfer of my membership to another and I'm assuming my point total will transfer as well. The transfer clause is very important as folks like me that are up in age can preserve all your previous points that you have accumulated over the years which is very important in ticket selection. This will give me a chance to transfer my membership to my daughter without any penalty.

Anyway we are looking forward to the game today, good weather and getting to see my football friends that live out of the Tuscaloosa area. Roll Tide!!!

Are you not working the game today, J?

Yes, Michelle is coming down with a friend for the game.
72  Around Campus / Ferguson Student Center / Re: "Chech out west 2018" on: September 08, 2018, 07:37:55 AM
Great pics as always Chech, hopefully there will be some plans for Mrs. J and myself to go out west in our future plans, we have talked about it some. By the way Chech, we are coming to the Ole Miss game and hopefully we can hook up with you while we are there. We are staying in Tupelo that night due to the time of the game and Charles and Shirley are coming along as well.
